Deed poll

I’ve decided to use a new account this time. I’ve been doing some work under this new nickname as my new employer is less appreciative of employees making games outside of work, and too many of my colleagues knew the old name. Unfortunate, but the price you pay for selling out I guess :p

Completed LD14 before, and had a go at LD18 but work got in the way and I ran out of time.

Disaster has struck and I have a flat inspection on Monday morning so I’ll probably be dividing my time between Ludum Dare and scrubbing floors.

Obligatory tools declaration:

  • Hardware: Acer Aspire One:

Acer Aspire One

  • Framework: Processing
  • “Art”: Paint.net OR InkScape
  • Music: musagi OR one of the music generators people have been posting OR actual electronic pianoforte
  • Sound: sfxr OR silence
  • Information Superhighway and IRC: Opera!

And I’ll try to do a timelapse this time.

Heaven…

... is a cold glass of milo

What is milo? Looks a bit like chocolate milk… It’s Australian? I really want to try Vegemite.

Hi, will try to enter, although might not be able to start work until 24 hr mark, flying home tomorrow morning. I figure if I have a plan sorted out by then, I can go all night and hopefully make something acceptable.

Base project

My base Unity project, has a basic screen manager, 2D library, a GUI library, and some other utilities. Probably not useful to anyone in it’s current undocumented, mostly broken state.

If I don’t feel I have enough time to use Unity, I’ll probably fall back on Processing.

For other tools, I tend to use InkScape, Paint.net, musagi, sfxr. I’ll probably use CamStudio for a time-lapse if I can be bothered.

Good luck all.

I’m In! And maybe We’re In!

Hey!

Will start with the comp, but switch to the jam if my artist friend joins me.

Won’t necessarily use Unity, depends on the game, but posted the base project in case.

Base project (Unity3D)

It’s 2am, time for bed. But first, progress!

Artist hasn’t joined me, so probably going to stick to the comp.

Spent the day on first-pass (probably final though, let’s be honest) art, input and motion code for the player (the pink capsule for now), and writing a script in unity to support updating nested prefabs (so for example I can modify one of my fences and they will all update).

Probably a waste of time as I’ll be spawning it all procedurally if I get to it.

Game idea is basically similar to Skyroads or Audio-Surf. There are lanes, and things you can jump up on. If I get time there will also be turrets shooting you, planes dropping bombs, and sections of bridges with holes in them. If I get even more time there will be sections where planes are blowing up the bridge as you’re driving/running along it and turrets are shooting you.

Uploaded a Unity web build, basically only shows the controls, there’s no gameplay yet. Interested to know if it doesn’t run for anyone.

Controls
A – Move left
D – Move right
Q – Jump left
E – Jump right
W/S – Sprint

Looking forward to a full day tomorrow.

Mission accomplished!

It’s 5am, 3 hours until I have to get up for work. May regret this in the morning.
