I’m in!

Frozyn here (hurr), I participated last time but dropped out due to…problems, but I intend to actually finish this time.

edit: Oh, also, I’m using Game Maker, for those who’re interested.

What theme is everyone hoping for?

Waiting, definitely. That would be awesome!

My ideas so far!

Okay, guys. Here is what I’m hoping to make within the next 47 and a half hours!

The game is going to play out like adventure (remember that old Atari game? Good times.)

You are in an underground-ish castle. I don’t know why, you don’t know why, but you are.  You are at the very bottom, and you must escape (see how the theme fits there?) This will be done by going through and completing each floor. There will be (planned) 105 floors. But there will be four different game modes:  Easy, intermediate, and expert.

Easy will be 15 floors long, and the floors will have easy things and such.

Intermediate will be 30 floors long, and the floors will have the easy floor things, as well as unique intermediate elements.

Expert will probably be the hardest, having a total of 70 floors, and will include all of the previous elements, plus more (possibly.)

And last but not least, there will be endless, which will obviously include all of the elements above for an endless number of rooms.

There will be different weapons and items that you can equip to the left, middle, and right mouse buttons. There will be real time combat using these weapons and possibly items, although I am horrible at AI so combat probably won’t be that great.

Now this obviously sounds like a whole lot to make in 48 hours, and I probably won’t finish everything I wanted, but I can hopfully finish the main engine and then finish the game at a later date.

This is a great theme and I’m liking it so far, good luck everybody else!

Hey,

I just experimented with making a game like this and it took a lot longer than I thought. You might consider keeping it to 1 difficulty and 4 or 5 floors so you don’t get overwhelmed. Good luck!

MY PLANNING…

…IS DONE.

Hail, LD! I have completed a lot of the concepts for the game. I am still going to be using the idea I came up with earlier. Now we’re here at the fun part.

Making the game.

I like this theme so far, LD.

Let the game, begin.

Hrrrrn

Just finished the moving engine. Its simplistic, but it took forever to find one I was satisfied with.

I ended up going with the one I’m using because, I was tired of collisions not wanting to work with me.

Well, I’ve still the whole night left to finish this, And then that day, and then that night!

Its me against the world, LD.

once I get more things in the engine, I release a uh, teaser thing.

Sleep.

I didn’t get good sleep last night, so I’m going to go ahead and sleep now.

All I can offer you is a .png of most of the items in the game. Of course, I won’t say what’s what or what the items do, but at least you all can reflect on my superior artsy skills.

Behold my lack of skills in art.

Good night, LD!

My accomplishments for today and while LD was down

here is a list.

  • Made Sword Stabbing
  • Made Spear Throwing
  • Made better collisions
  • Wasted maybe 2 hours watching ponies
  • Made item  system working
  • Procrastinated
Oooh boy.

IM IN HEEEEEELLLLLYEEEEAAAH

A friend of mine as well as myself are going to participate in the Jam.

We shall be using Game Maker.

Good luck everypony.

*insert bitching about game maker here*

Game ideas

Originally we were going to kill kittens, but then we decided that that was a terrible idea.

Now we’re making an arcade survival game starring a crazed mad man who imagines that monsters are coming at him.

Two characters

First off, we have Jeff, the main character who is KRAZY and hallucinates everythings.

Jeff:Jeff animation, being useless, etc.

Jeff’s arena is the roof an office building.

and then, another playable character (perhaps the most awesome) is FISHMAN.

FISHMAN: He will eat your soul.

FISHMAN’s arena will be a rather small Atoll.

I’m in! Hell yeah!

Hey gang! I wasn’t quite sure whether I was going to make it or not, but turns out I am. Lets do this!

Tools of the Trade :

» GameMaker: Studio for the IDE »Inchworm Studio for intense GRAF-X »Pandora for sanity I have ideas for a simple Tower Defence game that sounds fun in my head and shouldn’t be too complicated, so lets do this!

I’m in!

Count me in for Ludum Dare!

I’m not sure what tools I’ll be using, it is dependant on the theme.

If the theme is good and we can come up with a large idea, then my friend and I will be working together, and we’ll be using GameMaker: Studio.

If the theme is bad/we can’t quite come up with any good ideas, then we’ll do the competition separately, and I’ll be using the Löve2D framework.

Situation 1 (72hr):

  • IDE (and pretty much everything else): GameMaker: Studio
  • Sound: sfxr (or bfxr), probably

Situation 2 (48hr)

  • IDE: Programmer’s Notepad
  • Framework: Löve 2D 8.0
  • Language: Lua
  • Sound: Probably sfxr (or bfxr)
  • Image editing: game maker image editor, probably.

As per the rules of announcing reused code in the 48hr competition, if I do happen to use Löve2D, I will be utilising the SECS meta-framework, which basically adds a ‘class’ type of thing to the game, makes programming loads easier. Can be found here: http://love2d.org/wiki/Simple_Educative_Class_System

Luck be to all who enter!
