LD 42

First time in Ludum Dare

Hi everyone! This is my first time joining Ludum Dare. Let me introduce myself. I'm an italian 18 years old boy. I like both playing and creating videogames. Some days ago I felt the need to challenge myself with something new. That's why I joined Ludum Dare. Having a time limit and a theme to follow will help me getting better for the future. I'm sure I will do something wrong but I'm here to improve myself. I'm sure this will be a great experience. I have some questions for you fellow game makers. Do I have to record and/or stream everything I do during the 72 hours? Can I use a personal blog (like a Wordpress website), instead of recording? Is it optional? Thanks a lot! Good luck to everyone!

My approach to Ludum Dare!

Greetings, fellow jammers!
I've been reading posts made by some of you, such as @ddrkirbyisq, @radical-dog, @jesterseraph, @samusoidal and many others.
Everyone was talking about their past experiences, how they're going to deal with LD42, what softwares they want to use -and a very beautiful post wrote by @hagge, "Dont make this hard", you should read it-.
Then I realized that I HAVEN'T done such a thing when I introduced myself. That's kinda bad, don't you think so? Well, it's time I expose myself.
I won't talk about what tools I'll use in LD42, but rather about HOW I am approaching Ludum Dare

Why I chose the "Jam"

I chose to join the "Jam" to have more advantages than disadvantages.
1. 72 is more than 48
Having 72 hours allows me to better organize my time. 48 hours surely are a challenge, but that's too much of a challenge for me.
2. Improving myself
I'm not that good of a music composer although I play the piano, nor a graphic designer. The Jam allows me to use others' works in my game. All I have to do is FIND them. (Just doing that to save/protect your ears from a disastrous cacophony.
I'm sure I will learn how to compose music and design characters. I just need TIME. Someday I will compose my own musics and design my own graphics for my own games. 3. Theme (It always sucks)
Let's admit it. The proposed themes aren't always good. Watching @philstrahl -a.k.a. Pixel Prophecy's- videos and thinking about "How should I make it" was a painful mental experience. No matter what I tried, I had no ideas. That's until LD38 begun. "Headroom", that's when I started having ideas. I just hope that LD42 theme is at least as inspiring as LD38 and LD39 ones.
It's pretty amusing to stick to the winning theme, and it makes a great challenge!

The process

Since Ludum Dare is a "Game Jam", I thought that everyone should read, edit, study and download my project. For this reason I chose to make my LD projects public. I will create a repository in Github for each LD game I'll create. Moreover I'll use Google Docs and some other tools to make you all more involved in my experiences.
I'm planning to use a Wordpress -or any other CMS, give me your advice- blog to describe my "working" days and to post a Post-Mortem of my games, reviews of your ones and eventually a personal list of the favourite ones I played before the next Ludum Dare.
I'll surely use the old-but-functional "Pen and Paper" Combo with my "Writing and Sketching" no Jutsu. That always works!
By the way, do you know I'm on Twitter? Try guessing my username! It's easier than you think.

I think that's enough for now. Let's take this post a step forward. Let's make it more interactive. I want to know how YOU are going to develop the game. Which softwares do you use? Which Game Engine have you chose? How do you "pitch" the game and how to you plan the game development?

It's almost time!

Greetings, fellow jammers!
It's almost time! Ludum Dare 42 will begin soon. I'm here, as usual, to tell my process I'm going to use from today.

You all know I am going to use a bunch of online services to let you be more involved in my experience. Well, now it's time to reveal them. (NOTE: This post will be updated before the start. I'll add the links)
- Google Drive: Google Drive will act as a "Document Storage" for my games. You can open and read every single document about the games and their resources
- Google Docs: Since I'm using Google Drive I can't use Google Docs to write my documents
- Trello: Using a Kanban board can let you see my live progress on game development
- GitHhub: You all know what Github does, but let me explain it anyway. I'm using Github as a repository for my codes - Gmail: That's obvious

Now let's take a look at my shining new (still in construction) personal website.
- Wordpress: Wordpress is a free CMS (Content Management System) used primarily for Blogs. Guess what? I'll have my personal Game-Dev blog!
- presskit(): presskit() is a free Press Kit "manager". Since I'm creating a game, why can't I use it to make a Press Kit?
- A bunch of other stuff

Apart from my website and other services, you'll find me on Twitter, twitting about this adventure. Let's do this, everyone!

The game that's not going to be fully published

Greetings, fellow jammers!
Some days ago I joined LD42. I was happy and grateful, I was impatient to show my works, my sudden ideas to the gaming world. But today, I have a really bad news.
Unfortunately Dokodemo Delivery, the game I was creating for this LD, is unfinished and not worthy to be fully published in this state.
I want you to do something for me. I really want to finish this game and fully release it. That's why I thought to tell you a little story. Tell me if you like it.
"You have just been hired by the famous '4DP Agency' to do the most difficult and important job there is in our Planet: the Dokodemo Deliverer. You have been escorted to your 'Deliverer Room', a large empty room. The Manager left, closing the door behind him, while suddenly a lot of packages started falling from the ceiling and a portal opened behind you. You'll work here on one condition. You have to send every packages you can. Don't let them fill this room!"

If you want to see this game and play it in the future, please let me know in the comments below.

NOTE : While I chose to publish "Dokodemo Delivery: the Unfinished One" as "Unfinished" you won't find any gameplay content but movement and spawning. So try it just to see how the real "Dokodemo Delivery" will be.
