Ludum Dare 50

Have you already seen Post Solis?

Hey guys! First of all I want to say that I'm happy to be a part of such an awesome community.

Have you seen our new game, Post Solis?

It's a real-time economic strategy game (who says you can't write an economic strategy game in 3 days?!) with survival elements and a ton of unlockable lore text content.

The main mechanics is that the sun is constantly going away, and you have to build and develop your base to delay the inevitable darkness and death. Because once you're in the dark, the buildings you've built are destroyed. You have to relentlessly creep after the sun, mine resources, build factories, send out scouts, and do a whole bunch of other cool stuff!

To be honest, I doubted until the last moment that we would make it. Of course, there will be bugfixes, balance tweaks and other post-jam improvements. But for now we suggest you to dive into the game at least for a few minutes and try to delay the inevitable.BackGround.jpg

Post Solis: short teaser

We're quite lazy to blog our new game (in fact, we're just actively working on the post jam version), nevertheless we want to bring you a little teaser for Post Solis. PostSolis.gif

A video version of the teaser:

https://youtu.be/dM7cuTOK13o

Our programmers are actively working on the bugfix and improving the game balance.

Thanks to all the commenters for the great feedback! We welcome every new comment. Together we can make Post Solis a really great, unusual and interesting game.

Have you played Post Solis?

When we decided to participate in Ludum Dare (not an easy decision for a team of 7 people!), we wanted to make something nice, simple and fun. In short, a standard jam game.

But already at the brainstorming stage, things went wrong. :)

M-m-m, drones. Launch one! ps2.jpg

We decided to create:

  1. An economic strategy game.
  2. About a planet with very little sun, and the light spot from it is constantly shifting.
  3. In addition, the buildings outside the spot of light are being destroyed.
  4. Controlled drones fly around for resources, scouting, and just around the base.
  5. With upgrades, rich lore and the ability to complete the game to the end (2 endings!).

Wanna try? :) ps1.jpg

You know, it looks like we made it. Yes, with balance flaws and a high entry threshold (a post-jam update is on the way!). We didn't have time to implement the tutorial missions, but we made up for it with the in-game tutorial.

Reading is an option, gameplay is the king! ps3.jpg

Check out the Post Solis page - we'd love to get more feedback on the game to make it even better, clearer and more interesting.

Post Solis: a HUGE update!

And... Finally, we don't come empty-handed! We've rolled out a new post-jam build of Post Solis. During the last days we spent a lot of time testing, tweaking new features (and fixing old ones!), adjusting balance and other important things - sleep is traditionally not an option. :)

BackGround.jpg

Try it now!

For all those who haven't played Post Solis yet - congratulations, you got the sweetest and most polished version of the game. Let's see if you can find ALL the Ludum Dare Easter eggs!

Now I'll briefly run through the list of fixes and changes. To be honest, we screwed up a little, and in the release version the factories did not consume half of the required resources. Now that mistake has been fixed, and Post Solis will play in new colors for you.

Bugfix:

  • Factories now consume resources correctly (yes, it's THIS important for the gameplay experience!);
  • Small tweaks to the accuracy of the base performance counters;
  • Number of communication towers affects the number of drones;
  • You can now build far to the north and south of the base.

Features and Mechanics :

  • Use the mouse to zoom in and out;
  • Hotkeys to control game speed and quickly call the build/help menus;
  • The build menu now shows exactly what resources you are missing;
  • The current date is now displayed: this will help correlate events from found notes/journals with the current time;
  • Resources in warehouses are not destroyed if the warehouse goes dark.

Don't forget you can play Post Solis right in your browser!

It happened: the first full walkthrough of Post Solis on the stream!

It's an incredible feeling: just now, right before our eyes, our game was completed by TOBUGIS, for one of the two possible endings! You guys are freaking awesome! Thank you so much for that stream!

I wonder if anyone else will manage to get through the game, but to another ending. Looking forward to your screenshots in the comments!

Each walkthrough gives us not only a bunch of positive emotions, but also food for thought. We refine the prototype by following your advice and watching you play.

We're really, really pleased that we were able to make not just a cute game for Ludum Dare, but a prototype of what we really want to release.

Stay tuned - as soon as we have any news about Post Solis, we'll tell you about it right away!

And don't forget to follow TOBUGIS on Twitch!

No time to waste - we start a contest!

In previous posts we already mentioned that Post Solis is full of easter eggs and references to Ludum Dare. Originally we planned it as a little joke, but now we thought: why not?

It's no secret that in recent days, emboldened by the feedback from players, we're developing a full-featured version of the game for Steam and probably Itch.io. So we decided to announce a contest!

Contest conditions

The first person to find all Ludum Dare's in-game easter eggs will get a free copy of the full game, and his name (or nickname) will be mentioned in the game itself.

The contest will last until the end of Ludum Dare (April 21). Post screenshots with all easter eggs you found in the game comments section. As soon as a winner is detected, we'll let you know by publishing a special blog post. Cheers!

Find'em all!

Our contest continues!

You can put your (nick)name into our game and get a free copy of the commercial version if you can find all the Easter eggs dedicated to Ludum Dare.

The contest will run until April 21. We'll announce the winner as soon as a comment with screenshots (or a text description of all the Easter eggs) appears in the comments to the game.

The Post Solis contest continues: a small hint!

Hello to everyone reading this post! While creating our Post Solis game at this jam, we managed to create plenty of interesting notes that relate to various events, religions and philosophies of the inhabitants of our imaginary world! You can find our Easter eggs when reading these notes and journals - and it's a way to become a winner of our small contest!

The picture in this post may help you win!

Post Solis: Explorer Mode!

Hey, did you know there's an explorer mode in our game? It's not obvious, it's not on the menu, but this mode allows you not only to explore the entire technology improvement tree, but also find the set of interesting lore stories, journals and notes!

Режим исследователя.png

Once you start the game, just send scouts to investigate the ruins and find interesting story scraps that will help you put the whole puzzle together! By the way, you can also find Easter eggs for our contest in these shorts!

Come in, play, leave feedback and have fun with Post Solis!

Best regards, Post Solis team!

New 3D models for the Steam version of Post Solis

Many commentators have noticed that the 3D models of the environments in the game require, what they call, a little polishing. We went a step further and decided to almost entirely redo all the 3D assets and fully animate them.

Here's a small screenshot showing the changes of some buildings. Follow our updates and add Post Solis to your Steam Wishlist. It means a lot to us!

Soon we will show you how we implemented the building construction process - as well as other environmental models. Stay tuned for more updates!

Try Post Solis here - if you haven't yet!

The beginning of something great... Or just a picture?

This is a short but important post that means a lot at once.

  1. We're making great progress in developing the Steam version of Post Solis.
  2. The game has become larger, deeper, and most importantly, clearer to the player.
  3. Not only the game itself has been redesigned, but also its visual style.

Take a look at the new Post Solis logo:

1920х1080.jpg

The small sun in the center of the letter "O" symbolizes both loneliness and the hope of the whole planet for salvation. And also our hope to make a really good game.

Support Post Solis on Steam and add the game to your wishlist. We'll be very grateful to you for this little help.

Just one day to try out Post Solis

Hey guys! LD '50 will be finished soon, and there's no turning back. We'd love for you to try Post Solis if you haven't already!

We've been told several times that we've managed to make an extremely BIG and AMBICIOUS game. So we'd really like as many people as possible to have time to play it before the end of Ludum Dare.

Anyway, very soon we'll release a full-scale version of Post Solis on Steam - with a lot of cool features, updated graphics, elaborated story and (yes, yes, dear confused players!) detailed tutorial.

And while we're getting ready for the results of the contest and the release, we'd like to show you a brand-new splash-screen for the upcoming game. In our opinion, it looks damn good and atmospheric!

A recipe to win

WOW! Your reaction to our game was REALLY impressive! Thanks a lot to everybody who played and rated Cook'N'Slash!

Our game combines two different mechanics: slashing vegetables and cooking the dishes. Sometimes it's hard to advance without lerning certain tricks.

It's always hard to guess if your brilliant concept is obvious to other players. Especially when you spend 3 whole days testing, playing and imagining new features, simply living in that new little world. We understand that some players could simply drop our game because they have no time to dive into it and learn its nuances by themselves.

So here's a piece of advice on the Cook'N'Slash! game. Today we'll cover moving related hacks and tricks!

cns4.png

Move, move, move!

Constant moving is essential, especially on later levels, where there're hudreds of enemies.

  • Map out a path of retreat! Don't let enemies surround you, hit and step back to avoid damage.

  • Dive and slash! Sometimes it's very effective to dive into the crowd and slash everyone on your way.

  • Know your weapon! Some weapons need special moving tactics. For example, hammer is powerful yet slow. Step back after every hit to take a new swing.

  • Don't push ingredients into the pan while running around! When it comes to cooking, remember that the pan fries everything that falls into it every 10 seconds.

  • Kill and cook in different places! Somethimes it is better to lead the crowd away, than let tomatoe guts fall into the pan accidentally and spoil the dish.

We'll return to you later, with more facts about Cook'N'Slash! Stay tuned, folks!

We want YOUR feedback to make Cook'N'Slash! better :)

First thing to say — Ludum Dare is AWESOME! We're working on an improved version of Cook'N'Slash! and already integrated some features inspired by your feedback. We'll try to post a post-jam update as soon as possible. We're also working on some post processing features, so stay tuned!

So if you haven't played our game yet — it's time to check it! We really appreciate your feedback and read each commentary carefully.

Images are currently broken on LDJAM, so here's some ASCII interpretation of our game!
