Ludum Dare 46

One day left to play my game!

It was a lot of fun doing my first Ludum Dare jam, and even more exciting that I didn't start until Saturday and still managed to make a playable game by Sunday afternoon!

If anyone is interested in trying out my multiplayer twist on Conway's Game of Life during this final horus, check out Life Alive. It uses a node.js/sockets.io backend to allow multiplayer players to control special cells that can move between the generations in the Game of Life. If you have a friend get them to try with you at the same time so you can see how the multiplayer aspect works. See who can keep their cell alive the longest!

And thank you to everyone who took the time to try and game and provide all that wonderful feedback! It really made my day.

Life Alive Updates

I want to thank everyone who played, ranked, and commented on my multiplayer game Life Alive. It was so much fun to build, and I was pleasantly surprised to rank 28th in Innovation 28th and 30th in Theme for my first LD jam!

Based on feedback and me finding a few bugs after the jam, I've made some updates to the code (which I'm declaring as version 0.9.1):

  • Fixed server to regenerate the board after 300 generations (so the board doesn't die out completely over time)
  • Added a transition between moves so you can easily see what direction you're moving in
  • Added small death melody
  • Fixed issue where unnamed players were showing empty string instead of "Guest" in event log
  • Fixed bird's eye view camera orientation (it was upside-down)
  • Fixed issue when connecting and simply watching bird's eye view without first joining the game
  • Lowered the sound effects volume
  • Added version number to splash screen

Feel free to join in and play at any time! Be sure to invite a friend or ten so you won't be lonely.

Check out "Last Look Up"

Despite crappy art and a few bugs I'm very proud of my procedural buildings that actually shatter from meteor impacts, with fragments killing fleeing citizens! It's almost just as fun to not play and watch the city get destroyed :D

Since making it I've been contemplating doing a much cooler 3D version. :)

Please try my game and let me know what you think!

Try Last Look Up!

Try to destroy meteors and let people escape to safety before the end of the world. But beware: if the buildings are hit the pieces that break off will kill the fleeing citizens below!
