LD 44

My game sucks! (literally)

ld44em2/em0.gif

Ok, so now you can interrupt the conway simulation and "harvest" some of the agents in there. Then maybe these agents become currency so you can do something else? Add more agents? buy more boards? get crazy upgrades? improve your laboratory?

Game of Life + Idle game!?

Adding and removing cells!

ld44em2/em1.gif

So now I can add new cells! No idea where the game is goin, though! XD

More Progress!

ld44em3/em0.gif

Some more progress on the game: Cells get more expensive when they move around, and cheaper when they stay still. This influence the score you get when you harvest the board. Becoming a game, maybe?

Pixel Artsy!

ld44em7/em0.gif

Goal of day 2 is to make the game a bit more pretty and approachable. @CornetTheory is helping me on this one :-)

Ludum Dare 52

Whack-a-Mole new version!

ludum52_3.gif

Now it counts your carrots, and how many rabbits you killed! And there are some pretty mountains.

Time to add some sounds, and game state, I guess.

You can play it here: https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?pid=123868#p

First working version!

I completed the first working version of my game! You can play it here

Or, if you have pico-8, you can download the game from the image below: ludum52.p8.png

Let me know your high score :-) let me know if the game is too fast, too slow, too easy, too hard, too laggy, whatever!

Now on to make music and polish!

Harvest Crackers

By the way, "harvest" is also my favorite brand of crackers... :-P

Finished Version 1.0!

harvesttataki_1.gif

Finished the first version of my game! Yay :-)

This Sunday I already have a lot of other stuff to do, so I wanted to try to finish it in 24 hours.

The game is quite simple, but it has everything that I wanted: Gameplay, graphics, music, menu and game over screen, a decent challenge, and you can even try for a high score!

Play Harvest Tataki - whac-a-mole!

Let me know if you think it is too easy or too hard, or if you have any other suggestions - I might change the balance a bit before the compo deadline.

Is it still possible to embed HTML games?

I can't find the button to upload the zip file, only text fields to add links to the different versions of the game...

The embed guide mentions a "downloads" section, but only a "links" section seems to exist :thinking:

Rating games on Twitch (VOD)

It is rating time! I have always loved to play lots of games during LD and leaving them some ratings. This time, I decided to play some of those games on twitch. You can find the VOD here:

I hope you enjoy! I will do a few more streams like these through the week, if you want me to try your game, feel free to leave a comment here or on my game page :tv:

Streaming Ludum Dare Day 3, a

Tonight I played some very amazing games on stream. Here is the vod:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1709042207

The games I've played today are:

@meep -- Water under the bridge

Super cute Pico-8 roguelike -- I had a lot of fun figuring out how the enemies work in this one.

penguin.png

@ekaktusz, @Zahkros, @bartalomew -- Ursa Maior

Another game from the Pico-8 gang -- This one is a fun story with a weird twist!

ursamaior.gif

@xellaya, @ddrkirbyisq -- A Day in the life of Death

Oh my! This is possibly the best LD52 game from those I've played so far, and I don't see other games getting over it. It is just too delightful to play!

adayindeath.png

@fancyreckless -- Deck of Plants

Very tight deck building game, with surprising depth in it! (could have a bit of a faster pace, but definitely worth playing as it is right now).

deckofcards.gif

@haayaargh, @sparklingsushi, @m-kusy, @littlemaybee, @hexstart -- Hiversters

This is a very innovative game: An RTS where you control bugs by leaving pheromone on the level. A big rough on the edges, but definitely worth checking for the original idea.

hivester.jpg

@osh-studio -- Oyster Odyssey

Avenge your father, killed by the big oyster!

This is one of those: "Get as far as you can, upgrade, get farther, repeat!" -- very decently done, reminds me of the golden age of flash games! After you get the first few speed up updates, it gets really fun! Also, a very "Flash-era" sense of humor too!

oister.png

@matank -- The night harvest

Final game is a neat "stealth" game -- you are a rabbit (?) trying to steal crops without the farmers catching you.

Thank you everyone for recommending games! I hope I can get time to stream a few more this week.

VOD of another day playing games on Twitch!

This LD, I have been having a lot of fun rating/playing games on twitch. It is nice when people show up to talk about their games as I play them, and it is really cool to see other people playing my game live. I'm probably going to do this again this Friday from 11:00 UTC, so feel free to drop by!

Anyway, the games that I played tonight were the following. You can see the VOD here.

Harr vests by @lomby

Harr-Vest.gif

This is a very unique take on the theme. Some people might be miffed by it, but I do enjoy a good pun myself :-) The game is still unfinished, but I think there is a real good idea in here.

Harvesting Hustle by @angryrubberducky

Harvesting-Hustle.gif

Another game with a very unique idea -- you have to grow wheat to feed your sheep, but the more sheep you have, the harder it is to keep them away from the wheat! I loved the concept, and the challenge to balance your flock. The game tends to get a bit slow quickly, though.

Deathless by @demure

Deathless.png

A Typing game! You have to type objects that are collected, and dodge bullets. The connection with the theme is a bit thin, but I do enjoy good typing action.

Doki Doki Ninjin

A 2D platforming homage to Super Mario 2 (US). The pixel art and the music is strong with this one!

DokiDokiNinjin.gif

Formula Grain Prix by @chase-of-bass

FormulaGrain.png

A rare mix of racing game and farming game! This was incredibly fun! You race your harvester, planter, etc, through the racetrack, trying to balance the time limit and doing a through work on the farm. It also has a lot of meta-progression to keep you playing. I really really enjoyed this one! :heart:

Hex Yield by @rincs and @andidebob

HexYield.png

A puzzle game - place tiles and find the right combination to create new tiles. Collect points of the combinations found after completing the map. A quiet, contemplative game, but really fun to try and figure out which tiles combine with which other tiles.

Harvest Tataki Development Timelapse! (20 minutes)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DVOYRuTZb4

I have finally edited the development stream to a more manageable size. 11 hours of development sped up to 20 minutes!

(BTW, feel free to mute the video and replace with your favorite music! I like the music of the game, but it was not made to listen for 20 minutes in repeat)

It was fun revisiting the game creating process: - setting up centering of the maximum score up to 9999 (in the end it is very hard to get a score above 70...) - trying to create the music, failing, and sitting down to watch a tutorial on youtube :joycat: - spending a lot of time adjusting the difficulty :gamedie: - deciding to add the setting sun at the very last moment, just before submitting the game :sunrise:

Follow the rabbit to play Harvest Tataki! :rabbit:

PICO-8 Gang represent!

Congratulations for everyone!

I've made a small table with all PICO-8 games submitted to this ludum date (that were tagged as LD and PICO8 on itch). Some very high scoring pico-8 games this time around! (#1 in sound? wooo)

If your game does not show up here, please leave a comment!
