LD19

I. AM. READY.

So yeah, Notch got me into this. I’m Superyoshi, or Chris, random 16-year-old guy from Germany, trying to make something which comes remotely close to a game using FlashPunk for this Compo.

Yeah, I already have a basic idea and I just have to hope the theme fits it. Sadly, Teams are not allowed so get ready to get your ears and eyes raped. Except I find out how to use MIDI on Ubuntu. I bet some people here have an idea, if you have please contact me, I’m stuck with Qsynth/fluidsnyth D:

Also whoever gets the reference in the title first wins a cookie with whipped cream.

Notch’s blog is the reason I LD, too. I’ve been at it ever since LD16, though.

So you guys post desk pics eh

Let me show you mine

Suyo's desk

Suyo's desk

(yes, I use my TV as screen right now. Also it’s midnight here so I had to switch on my lamp, so you might not be able to see the kick-ass BIT.TRIP FLUX wallpaper on my Ubuntu)

I am doing it wrong

As I have no chance to code on Day #1 and have to do it all on Day #2, I started with GFX and music. That’s feeling odd.

Anyways, here you have a mockup

And here’s the music from the intro
Download from Dropbox.com

Try to make some sense out of this. Have fun guessing 馃榾

IT鈥橲 AN INTRO.

OHMYGAWD.
Here you go

Image says it

EDIT: Whoops, found a typo, it’S ELSE, not EKSE :p

I鈥檓 getting somewhere I guess

A in-dev flash in it’s natural environment of code windows

Also, a suggestion for everyone having a bit of spare money: Listening to the awesome chiptune of the BIT.TRIP SOUNDTRACKS Hint: this is 5 seperate links makes motivation skyorcket. But you can also use Reach for the Stars as shown above though Crush40 is still better or any music you like. Music is awesome when coding.

It鈥檚 a playable something!

Discover19

Let’s see how many platforms you can dodge until you are bored enough

W/Up: Jump
S/Down: Slide
A/Left: Play random beeps

Am I the only one who’s having audio lag? Try hitting A and tell me if it plays at the same time.

To Do:
– fix glitch: run off a platform and jump again in midair
– fix platform generation
– Score
– Discoveries (new abilities – in the final version you won’t be able to slide from the start)
– an ending
– if enough time is left, boss

I played for about 30 seconds and i got a platform that i had to duck, right against one i had to jump and it was impossible to get past that point.

-100% impossible, +50% patterns

Post your scores. Mine is 85721 – developer failing at his own game = good sign.

To Do:
– fix glitch: run off a platform and jump again in midair

– Score done
– Discoveries (new abilities – in the final version you won’t be able to slide from the start) half strikethrough – basics there, jsut need to enable it
– an ending player runs off screen, now for outro

if enough time is left
– online Highscore
– some little eyecandy (like platforms coloring when stepping on them)
– boss

Now, off to dinnnnnnerrrrr

coder.motivation += pizza;

I鈥檓 done I guess.

Control the little man on his way and help him discover who he is, where he is and what he is able to do.

screenie

Let’s hope I can use the last hour I can be on my PC to polish it up a bit. Maybe also Online Highscores.

Online Highscores are go!

Who can beat me with my crappy score?

PLAY IT!

EDIT: And that’s it. Aftermath Post tomorrow!

Discover19 Update

Updated my game a bit. I added a pause function – press P – also made some tweaks to the scoring, so you don’t get a score boost when falling from the top and you get less points when sliding.
All scores were deleted as it would be a bit unfair. So get playing and get on the table while it’s empty!

ALSO NEW MUSIC. Yes, you don’t get your ears raped by my attempts – well half. The drum loop is made by me, and the epicness you can hear on multipliers x5 and x10 is made by ganon95. Big thanks to him! I hope I can get a drum loop which fits the song a bit better soon :p

So what’s still to do is the “Respawn and fall in front of a platform” problem. Lets see what I can do there.
Also someone suggested, your multiplier keeps increasing if you are on x10. Any comments on that? Good/Bad?

GO PLAY THE GAME!

Here we go again

Aaand here I am again, ready for the second try.

I’ll be using:
– Linux (oh yeeeah)
– FLEX, ActionScript3 and FlashPunk
– GIMP for graphics, maybe some other stuff if it fits into the theme
– Noteissimo and Hydrogen Drum Sequencer for music (let’s hope this time I make better music. The “music” in my last entry was pretty much just earrape D:)

But until the competition starts, I’ll be laying some more Portal 2 and some games of the Potato Sack.
SPAAAAAACE~

Another workspace post

Suyo's workspace

Nothing special here. Except the BIT.TRIP wallpaper. Hell yeah BIT.TRIP.
I’ll be working on my freshly updated Ubuntu 11.04. Unity is awesome.

So what is your coding soundtrack

>> LD21 edition

Am I the only one listening to music while coding? I hope no, because else everyone will think I’m crazy.

Aaaaaanyways I’m mainly listening to chiptune (mostly BIT.TRIP) and videogame music (Super Meat Boy Soundtrack, Still Alive etc.). If anyone has some good tracks, feel free to throw me a suggestion in the comments or on last.fm.

So what are you listening to?

As far as videogame music goes, the La-Mulana soundtrack is pretty amazing.

Okay I woke up

Party and stuff

Anyways here’s my concept:

– girl (player) comes back from shopping with bags, nothing special here
– robbers try to grab the bags, nothing special too
– you have to defend yourself with pepper spray, no special
– the whole thing happens in rhythm, that means you see the robbers one measure before they run at you and you have to spray them to the face

It kinda fits the theme, right?

Now listening to: CONTROL – BIT.TRIP CORE

Breakfast is go.

Gotta love the classics.

Also I finished the basics for the player spraying around and the spritesheet structure. Behold my epic walking cycle:

Now listening to: Searching. Emergence. Discovery. – Dejobaan

Finally Rhythm

I just managed to align my game to the beat. Was harder than expected.

In the following version enemies only drop from the top, in the final game they come from all sids, and other patterns.

For now, WAD or UpLeftRight to use your pepper spray in that direction, which only works if you got it ready (which is displayed by the arrow. the numbers are the walking cycle)

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17041897/Main.swf

Now listening to: EPIPHANY – BIT.TRIP FLUX

Basic Gameplay done!

Woo! Took 6 hours!
Thar
Again, numbers are walking, as soon the arrow appears you can take out enemies with WAD / Up Left Right.
