How do you deal with a busy day ?

Alrighty this is my first time joining Ludum Dare jam after 3 years of missing the event (talk about consistency). Im super exited and stressed too but there's something I don't know how to deal with. Im gonna have a really busy Sunday so I won't be able to develope much, for people who are experienced with game jams, is that a really bad thing ? I mean one day is a big percentage out of 3, is it gonna impact my game that much ? or can I still make it as long as the scope is smaller ?

Stressin'

it's just 30 minutes left, this is it it's gonna start soon, all sorts of people with different skills, knowledge, place, goals.. we're all here to do this as the clock is ticking more and more, good luck everyone Give It The Best You Could!

let me try your game!

this year's submissions are quite fun to play, and I have the whole evening if you want me to play your game let me know, it would be better if it's available on web but it's ok otherwise. Happy Rate Day everyone lol I just made that up

if "combine" is the theme, I'll probably make a game about the combine from half life 2

What is a good window size ?

from the jam-games I played and the game I made last time, window size is usually quite random, everyone uses what feels right. I understand that different games might require different resolutions, but in general what is a good practice to follow when choosing the size for your game's window so it works smoothly on everyones computer (I'm mainly talking about the size and not the resolution, because generally the resolution/viewport could get stretched to fit the size of the window)

Why is folklore almost always about fear ?

I've been checking folklore stories from different cultures including my own in preparation for the "Folklore" theme (I'm trying to come up with ideas for all themes), and it seems almost all of those stories have somthing to do with fear [ghosts, crazy murderers, mosters...] I mean think about some folklore in your country, chances are it's probably some kind of figure that you don't want to encounter. why is this the case ? and why I never noticed this before ?

Have you set up your project yet ?

No matter what engine, framework or library you use, it is important that you start the setup before the jam starts. so make sure you have a barebone project ready if you haven't already. it's also helpful to setup other things like a github repository and make sure all your usual software are working and dont need any updating or troubleshooting.. for me for example I use the godot engine, so I have a (jam-template) project always ready. it has common components like -A global scene manager with premade transition effects -A global music player that can play sound effects and handles music and music transition. -basic customizable splash and menu scene -common sound effects like buttons and splash scene music and some other utility and misc I use

Let's play each others games!!

while some of us are still working on the final touches of our games, we the few who submitted our games early can play each others game and rate them. so I will play and rate any one's game as long as you play mine as well. also feel free to criticize as freely as you would like, if you think my game is bad there is nothing wrong with giving me a bad rating for it, and of course I'll do the same. thanks for stopping by, I wish you all best of luck

I'll help you reach 20 votes!!

if the ratings in your game are less than 20, I can play your game and help you reach it (I know one vote is not much but it's also better than nothing right ?). I'm using windows here so I can only play games that are built for Windows or for the Web

Can't wait !

I've been waiting for the next ludun dare for a while, I'm so excited

so.. what's it like to work in a team ?

I've been into game development for about 3 years now, and into programming in general for a bit longer, made a number of small-medium scale projects, few jams as well. but I've never ever worked in a team before (apart from occasionally contributing to open source projects). I really have no idea how working with other people is like, I mean I'm sure it has its own set of problems to manage and so I would love to hear your experiences working in a small or a big team, regardless of whether or not it was in a game jam. -did you have issues communicating with each other ? -how did you handle opposing ideas and difference in preferences ? -is it better to work solo ? -and is it possible to have more than one person working on the same section of the game ex(2 artists or 2 composers)..?

I do plan to work with a team one day, maybe next jam or on other occasions, but I guess for now I'm sticking with the ol' lone-wolf mindset lol

what's your favorite theme so far ?

I know it's hard to remember all the themes in the slaugher (assuming you've done some slaughtering), but from what you can remember, what is the one theme that you won't feel bad if it ends up winning!

I think my favorite was something like "you control the level", but again I can't really remember them all

I'm in !

been visiting ludum dare almost daily for the past month (not recommended, it makes time way slower), I can't believe it's finally about to start!

as usual I'll go solo ('cries in having no friends')

also I'll be using:

-Godot Engine

-Aseprite for pixel art

-Audacity for sfx (mostly to tweak publicly available sfx, and make some of my own)

-Fl Studio for music

Hope this jam goes as smoothly as the last two (minus the sleep deprivation). good luck everyone! and remember to have fun

Too many brocken embedded games!

I've played and rated a number of games and man you guys have them ideas  anyway I noticed that ludum dare embedding is brocken, like only 1 out of like 5 embedded games work, I noticed that I wasn't the only one with this problem as many others complained about it in the comments for all sorts of reasons. now I personally used itch.io to publish my entry because I was afraid that the new embedding system may screw-up and IT DID!!!!!! I hope this gets fixed soon
