Ludum Dare 51

24 hours down

Beginner progress report: I'm pretty happy with the gameplay of the tutorial level, but how am I supposed to get sound, reasonable artwork, and a good amount of levels going before submitting? O: Ah well, I'm going to do what I can with what I've got. On to level transitions!

"Cadet Set Go" is live!

It took way too much time to fix the web build, but I got there with minutes to spare. It's far from perfect, but I met my goal of finishing a game in 48 hours!

Ludum Dare 55

In Like Flint? That's my favorite movie, baby.

Excited to be joining my game design students (upon whom I've inflicted this activity) for my first Ludum Dare in a couple years! My loadout: -Unity/Visual Studio -Piskel and paint.net -Audacity and some online MIDI creator

A big goal for me this time around is original sound design. I ignored it completely for Cadet Set Go and even though I loved how it came out conceptually and didn't hate the gameplay execution, it was badly incomplete without that dimension. I also had trouble with my web builds last time, so getting something that works properly in Chrome is a major goal for me. I have a new home PC this year (I don't know the specs offhand, so I'll just categorize it as "can run Alan Wake 2") and I'm hopeful that I'll be able to iterate more with a WebGL build instead waiting 15 minutes each time. Fingers crossed! Should be a very memorable 48 hours.

Protect your wimpy body!

This guy is my "Wannabe Warlock", the working title for the game concept I've devised. Elevator pitch is "summon and maintain demons to protect you from enemies". Working on fleshing out some basic mechanics tonight, then I'll sleep on it.Wizard.png

24 hours down, 24 hours to go.

My tutorial level is mostly finished, and I'm proud of my sound design and primitive art. I've been stuck for hours on a few very annoying bugs, though. Going to do my best to overcome and get this thing to a fully working state!

Need to rest. Good luck, Tomorrow Me!

Been working on this game for 16 straight hours and I finally tracked down the bug that made me less productive for several of those. So I'm calling it quits for tonight and I'll get as far as I can tomorrow! ld55 screenshot 2.png

Wannabe Warlock is live and fully tested!

Got it posted at 8:59 P.M. or thereabouts after some grueling work days. ^_^ Had a friend playtest it and it works all the way through, despite a couple of visual bugs. Gonna rest up and review plenty of other games tomorrow. Congrats to everyone who was able to put something together!! Wasn't sure I would make it but I think this is my best jam game yet. Won't you give it a look, for Wally? :D Wizard Tele 2.png

Those who can't do, teach.

Game design teacher here! I was pretty pleased with my Wannabe Warlock's overall performance here in this competition - a very nice 34th place in Humor, and a serviceable 244th in Fun and 204th Overall. Not bad for just my second LD, eh?

And then I saw the results for GLORBLE BRAWL... https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/$385075 ...which was, in fact, made by a current (soon to be graduated) high school student of mine.

Seeing it get 30th in Humor admittedly stung a bit. Young man out-funnied the emcee. It happens. But what's this? 11th in Fun?! 35th Overall?! :skull: :skull: :skull: It seems the student has become the master. I think we might all be playing this kid's games in a few years.

Made it!

Presenting "Call Me", my third Ludum Dare attempt! Just a cute little lo-fi puzzle game about how hard it can be to find a cell signal.

I would have wanted to put a lot more features in, of course, but a 48-hour window is all about squeezing in whatever you can without breaking everything. I'm sure my game design students will once again make something more impressive than me, but I'm happy with it!Game Logo.png
