The Final Countdown

Right, back from the grocery, bought about R$ 150,00 of food (a soda can is R$ 3,50) and supplies, and I still have to install the software I am gonna use. And this is my first time, please be gentle 😀
Hi all,
Just wanted to post this small drinking game that I jammed with a friend yesterday. It works best if you are a little drunk and more than 4 players. We have successfully played it with about 10 players.
Play the game here: http://garbos.itu.dk/mjod/ It is called MJÖD and is a drinking game with vikings!

Last minute (or hours) “I’m in” post, with picture of my makeshift workspace and declaration of tools.
As for tools:
Working in Flash Develop, using AS3 and Flashpunk.
Graphics will likely be GraphicsGale, with Gimp to touch up transparency.
Sound (if I get to it (which I really want to this time)) will be sfxr, or maybe bfxr, and possibly trying to grab some music from inudge.
Tea shall mostly consist of peppermint. Huzzah.
Things are going quite slowly : it’s the first time I try to implement a scaling 2X algorithm.
Left part is generated with a simple sedimentary algorithm, right side is a close up with some scaling goodness. I will add later some props (grass, trees, stones, …).

Heyall,
i’ll be participating this ludumdare~. It will be the second for me.
I will be using actionscript so everyone can try out the game. And I hope i’ll be sober by tomorrow ( damn you koninginnenacht!
Good night~!
This is the 3rd Ludum Dare I’m entering, and in each of the previous events I’ve planned to use ActionScript and ended up using C++. This resulted in me spending most of the weekend tinkering with my “engine”, and not making anything truly playable. This time, things will be different. This time, I’m going to focus on the game! My tools will be…
Looking forward to the theme announcement, although I’m considering just getting some sleep and starting in the morning – I’m in the UK, so go-time is 3:00 am.
Right, GLHF!
Or preferably something. This is my first Ludum Dare, but because of school tests coming up, I might not be able to participate if I can’t come up with anything.
The tools that I’m going to use is the Microsoft XNA 4.0, for windows, FarseerPhysics, GIMP for art, but I’m not yet sure what for sound creation.
Hi, will try to enter, although might not be able to start work until 24 hr mark, flying home tomorrow morning. I figure if I have a plan sorted out by then, I can go all night and hopefully make something acceptable.
My base Unity project, has a basic screen manager, 2D library, a GUI library, and some other utilities. Probably not useful to anyone in it’s current undocumented, mostly broken state.
If I don’t feel I have enough time to use Unity, I’ll probably fall back on Processing.
For other tools, I tend to use InkScape, Paint.net, musagi, sfxr. I’ll probably use CamStudio for a time-lapse if I can be bothered.
Good luck all.
Between having a baby and it being my godmother’s birthday on Sunday, I figure I’ll be able to get about 12 solid hours in this weekend.
I’m going to be doing JavaScript and HTML5 using my post compo engine code from LD19, which you can see / download / play / view source at:
http://bsmith555.appspot.com/10MinuteGalaxy.html
I’m also going to (maybe) do some multiplayer via google app engine. You can see my test chat app and download source at:

the java backend is available at:

You see, the problem with being in the UK is that right now I’m drinking loads of whiskey and amerreto (yes that’s spelt wrong). How am I supposed to start coding in 2 hours?!
(I apologise if drunken pre-contest posts are inappropriate)
I’ve made some list-minute decisions about what I’ll use.
I’m probably going to use Panda3D, first of all. Development in it goes pretty quick, so it’s probably a good choice.
Secondly, I’m probably going to make a shmup if the theme permits. Otherwise, not sure. I’m perfectly willing to use wordplay, subversion, and outright bull**** to make the theme fit my ideas, too.
I’m also absolutely entering the jam. The main compo is fun, but I think I’ll need the extra 24h because I’m doing 3D. (And even though Panda3D makes 3D development quick, it certainly doesn’t make it as quick as Unity does!)
That being said, my game is like to be a top-down, multi-directional shmup set either on a space station or in cyberspace.
I am using the following tools: (This part I know for sure)
All in all, hopefully a fun weekend. That being said, the game idea is subject to change if I have a better idea for the theme.
Peace,
— Mr. Dude
With LD nearing, I figured I should disclose some of the source algorithms I might use. Basically, I’ve written a lot of procedural generation routines for Angband (where I’m a dev, and which is open-source) and I might reuse some of those algorithms. Angband is in C and I will be using Python so I won’t be taking any code directly, but I just wanted to let people know that level generation code, etc, is available.
I’ve also ported some name-generation code over into Python and have the source here for anyone to use. It’s pretty straight-forward… you give it a big list of “appropriate names” and it builds a Markov chain to randomly generate new names which “probably” have the same feel. It’s pretty nice. The code is at http://plastic-idolatry.com/ludum/namer.tgz and it’s public domain.
If I get any more code ported to Python before the contest starts I will post it here also (and in fact, I would be happy to share any procedural generation stuff I port even after the contest has started).
Good luck everybody!
EDIT: I also ported some labyrinth generating code, available at http://plastic-idolatry.com/ludum/maze.tgz. Got it finished just under the gun! (9:50 Eastern US time)

I’m in. Using Game Maker 8/GML and good old MS Paint for graphics.
I have to attend a birthday party on Sunday, so hopefully I can finish by then!
The Arch Reactor hackerspace in St. Louis will be doing a jam entry. There’s a couple of the members that are going to be working on it all weekend, and various others who will stop by to help out with music and graphics.
On the off chance that there are other LD participants in the area, feel free to come by and help, or come by to work on your own entry with some good company.
Here’s our work area:

The Lounge Area
Alright, so I was ALREADY in (and even in the video, yay!), but the game has changed! I’m throwing out my framework completely. Yep. And using a language and library I’ve NEVER USED BEFORE!!! Python/Pygame. Wish me luck?
Other software: bfxs and codemonkey’s music generator.
Hardware: An old HP somesuchnumber desktop with an old GeForce8500 and only a single monitor
(Can’t chat while I’m working!)
Mushyware: A pile of muffins and cookies.
Bubbleware: Generic, off-brand Dr. Pepper, and hopefully my girlfriend will bring me some energy drinks later tonight.
Where-ware: Tallahassee, Florida… in the summer with no air conditioning.
Some people posted pictures of their workspace? Here’s mine:
aaaand… that’s about it, I hope! Good luck everyone!
So, I’m in.
I’m not sure whether I will be entering the JAM or the COMPO – It seems logical to attempt the compo rules just to see how it goes. I’m not terribly attached to either, so I’ll have to live in the moment.
I’ll most likely be using Unity as I normally do, with Sketchup for models. Ableton Live for music. Bsfxr for sounds (maybe). I’m thinking about setting up a Livestream as I work, but I can’t imagine anyone really enjoys watching someone work in real time. I also don’t know how well I could handle the embarrassment of people watching me make silly mistakes (I make a lot of them).
Regardless, I wish everyone who enters good luck!
Using AS3 with FlashPunk 1.5 in FlashDevelop.
Cheers.

I’m trying this kind of event for the first time. I’m a programmer and I suck at art, so we’ll see how this goes. I’m doing this to practice “shipping” stuff.
I’ll be mainly using Unity 3D.
