Space, Here I Come!

So yes, I am participating in this month’s Mini Ludum Dare! And I’m quite excited, if I may say so.

My game, which I’m tentatively calling Space Prober, is a game about a space probe slingshotting itself between stars and planets. You are trying to explore as many planets as you can while keeping your battery levels up by slingshotting close to active stars.

It will be a fairly simple game, all things considered, and I am planning on porting it to Android if I have the time to do so. It will be built in Unity, so I should be able to publish it for browsers as well as Windows.

I will try to post a screenshot tonight, but I already have the core slingshotting mechanic working! Yay!

Good luck everyone!

So far, so good!

I’ve been working for a few hours now and i have the base engine implemented. All I have left to do is implement Server/Client stuffs and can start working on content.

well here is the screenshot:

Can you control the craving for the colossal conclusion?

My game for MiniLD #49:

confection

Confection Circumventor! In this game, you must circumvent through a constantly growing count of ‘clickers.’

Confection Circumventor cannot claim it only contains only a coincidental connection to the considerably cooler Cookie Clicker.

My last game “Conspiracy Clicker” also was connected to Cookie Clicker and contained a high count of “C”s. :)

This is the Game concept. The mechanics are not clear yet, I’ll define it in code.
This video shows what I pretend to do:

Progress

Oh lord the progress. At the end of the day we had a huge merge in which we found out about a mistake we made. We had accidentally used the wrong file type in construct, making merges hard. We got that sorted out, and I ran through each individual file fixing errors. Lo, all of our code is now merged and it is glorious. github

Getting Better

Finally learned how to use GUI Elements and make a level restart button. I scaled down the character for more foresight.

MiniLD #49 :D

I’ve been working on my entry for a little bit and here’s wha tI have so far

The Adventures Of Mr. Moustache! is a physics platformer that’s gonna be awesome. Yeah I honestly don’t know what else to say.

First Ludum Dare: Day 1 wrap up

Hello, my name is Betaman, and today, I started work on an entry for Mini LD #49, with the theme of “Non Human Players”. I went with the idea of a robot testing things in a lab, and came up with Paintshop Panic!, a game involving a test robot that uses elemental paints to influence his environment. I don’t have a complete schedule, but I can make time to work on the game. I WILL have a working demo done by Monday.

Tools being used:

  • Game Maker 8.0 (strictly GML) for the programming
  • MS Paint with a VGA palette restriction for the graphics
  • Famitracker and SFXR for the sound effects and music

PROGRESS OF DAY 1:

  1. Most of the art assets are finished, all I need to do is create animation frames for some and create the graphics for the placeable tools/toolbar
  2. Laid down the basic programming for the game, doing most of the work live on a stream. A few minor bugs were squashed off camera though.
  3. Streamed it all to a grand total of 5 or 6 awesome viewers that were kind enough to show up to my stream and watch my progress, despite it being just a bunch of music playing over me drawing in MS Paint and typing in a text editor for two and a half hours. (Mic is busted and I don’t know where my other one is.)

If you would like to watch my progress, I have a show called “Programming After Dark”. I basically intend to stream me programming and providing commentary while I do so. A link can be found here. Since I am programming for the Mini Ludum Dare event, the titles and logo are all Ludum Dare themed, with the Ludum Dare logo underneath to show that this is streaming footage for the event.

Procedural progress

So the procedural map generator’s pretty much done; just gotta sort out doors between rooms.

Had to draw room and tile id’s along the way to debug though: thought people might enjoy this mess:

oh god.

Space Prober – Day 1

This shows the space probe orbiting a star

This shows the space probe orbiting a star

I have successfully worked on my game, Space Prober, today! I’ve actually already got the core mechanic working, though it needs a lot of polish. The probe swings around through space and starts to orbit any planet it hits.

Tomorrow’s work will be implementing planets, asteroids, battery usage and recharging, and otherwise getting the core mechanics working. Sunday will be for polishing, tuning, and making the game look and sound nicer!

I’m already liking the swoopy feeling of slingshotting the probe around, and I can’t wait to get down to really making it feel right!

Get some rest, everyone, and enjoy the jam!

As usual, I’m cross-posting to my blog.

Nice! Try drawing the sprites in Y order, it’ll make your graphics look a lot nicer.

This is essentialy my progress on the jam game. Today I work on dust bunny AI and procedural map generation!

Getting along nicely… lots to do though

Well, getting the splitscreen 2 player viewports going was much quicker than i expected, though some of that is definitely thanks to existing libraries.

In other news, the procedural map generator seems to be working fine and dandy: the development progress is somewhat documented and demonstrated in the videos below, for anyone that cares.

Mini LD49 progress. Alphabeat ’em up?

Taking a break for coffee and post a progress update.

The game takes shape and you can try it here!

There is no win / loss condition yet though :)

I had a lot of fun today and I hope it’s the same for you. Looking forward to playing all the games that are being created this weekend.
