Good job everyone who finished the compo! I had a blast and I'm happy with how my game turned out. I'm looking forward to the next weeks of playing and rating games. But first, I need some sleep...
To all of you in the Jam (and Extra), keep it up!
Bun 22 years old, hehe

I would have liked to put animations on it but I've gotten into the mechanics and level design, I can't wait for you to try it!
Made the deadline and i'm heading to bed but it's been a blast! Good luck to everyone and I look forward to rating games tomorrow.

You can find my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/factory-manager-hero
I really wanted to add music to my game, and there was only 45 minutes left. It wasn't pretty, but that was the fastest I have ever composed two tracks in my life. Time to take a nap!
If you put ketchup on your ice cream you aren't allowed to play Stellar Sauce, but everyone else is welcome! Looking forward to playing everyone's games later!

Wow, this was a weird game, but I'm quite proud of the result! You can play it here if you want: https://mateusboga.itch.io/gastronauts
I can't wait to see what other games you all made, and play as many as I can! Good luck to those who are still working. That's it for me! Bye!
I never thought I'd be able to enter a game jam within 2 days, let alone 32 hours (I started late)! I struggled with a 7 day jam years ago later extended to 9 (didn't help much) and I struggled to wrap up the last Ludum Dare for the 3 day jam which I think I also started late! It was a near miss though, 1 minute till the compo deadline for working on the game!
Here is my compo entry: Life is Fleeting

My confidence as a game dev has been low for a while now but I managed to do a whole bunch of things I've never done before. The cursor is based on which direction the player is facing and snaps to a tile based on it and the tilemap position, I created a farming system, shops and a few other bits here and there. I'm quite pleased with that. Weirdly I think this is one of the only projects where scope creep just hasn't been a factor at all.
Anyways, I very much enjoyed this! I had a horrible night a couple of days ago and this jam has been just what I needed! I can't wait to see what everyone else has come up with. The posts showing little bits of progress up till now have been looking great!
If you take a look at my game, thank you very much and you get bonus points if you spot a typo that I knew about and didn't have time to fix! Now... time to chill for a bit.

As a parent of a very eager and creative 7 year-old, game jams can be pretty challenging.
This year I worked hard to include her in the process and help her see the joy of creation.
She created all the cat sounds for me (future voice actress) and helped with the fully voiced, super-professional, tutorial.
She worked so hard, and now she wants to know when the next jam is.
Check it out!

_ Well done Compers! Jammers keep jamming!_
Sorry I am relatively new to ludum dare or even game jams... Would need help. I dunno how to rate games
If you would like to micromanage your own little farm island and ship your crops away every 10 seconds, check out ShipIt!

For the first time, I think we bit off more than we could chew, we might have something tomorrow, but neither of us can really work on it past today. Dang. The graphical rendering took too long to figure out.
...and no, we're not going to bother with the extended time whatever; if we can't get a score, we don't care. We may or may not give up to make a complete game, but odds are the former, rather work on a different project that isn't LD related.

We have done a lot of tweening, order generation logic, and also some graphics today! :art:
Also making sure that we document all events we use not to be lost tomorrow (ECS can be messy)
I failed to add falling debris etc. Just imagine an extra sense of urgency with beams / concrete falling from ceiling
Arrows / WASD or touch if mobile.

Hey my LD fellows! Have you submitted your work? How was your deadline experience?
Hard work and repeatedly checking? What about having a LOVELY CAT that keeps harassing you, that you have to leave your seat EVERY 10 SECONDS? :anger:
This game may not bring you pleasure, but it's real. I hope you will like it :joy:
Welcome experiencing my Last 5 Minutes.
P.S.: I'm so glad that I made this. It's been the most completed game that I've ever made on Ludum Dare.

I'm really proud of how this one turned out, happy to have gotten the Web Build in the last couple minutes after Unity took a full half hour to generate it. Phew!
The curse of infinite curses applies a random new curse every 10 seconds until you die. How long can you live?!

I'm looking forward to playtesting everyone else's games! If you try out my game, tell me what your highscore was! I ran out of time to make a leaderboard.

Try my assembly inspired programming puzzle game. Just code and drive with a cute robot. What's not to like?

I'll try my best to leave a detailed feedback back :smile_cat:
And great job Compo folks, we did it again!
Good Luck to Jam and Extra guys and gals!
Sneak Peak of Bumble Breeze:

Somewhat done, final polishing touches to be made tomorrow.
Ha-:bee: to participate with this great team.
Looking forward to trying out all your creations as well :).
He is alive! Look at him wave hello! Such a pretty boy
Now I have to get all the other art in the game...

I really struggled with the theme. I wasted so much time doing nothing but complaining about the theme. In the end, I stuck with my first idea and now I like it alright.
That's my lesson for this jam: Keep it simple, every time I go with my first idea I usually make it into "something" ta least.
Feel free to check it out here :3

10 seconds to dungeon, is that a lot?
It's my 10th LDJAM anniversary. Feels like 10 seconds. too

This was my first time competing in Ludum Dare. Making a game entirely by myself in 48 hours was very difficult. Ended up making a comedy game where you have to press a button on a bomb every 10 seconds or you'll explode. Overall, I'm pretty happy with what I was able to make. Unfortunately I wasn't able to upload a web build as there were some last minute issues with the audio in browser. Looking forward to trying out and rating other compo games!

Managed to get it finished for the Compo! :sparkles:
Browser version is now also online
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/snowy-snatch

I didn't really like the theme (it was actually one of my least favorite ones) but I managed to come up with something in compo. I'm really proud of myself right now.
This was a blast, I think I'm going to have to explore text-adventure hybrids a little more in future LDs.
Adding music/sound effects was a crunch, but I think the music came out better than it did in any previous games. I sadly didn't get to write a bigger story or add voiceovers.

It's a game where the inputs are being recorded, and replayed every 10 seconds.
Neither of us have much time to work on the game tomorrow, so I expect that this is very close to the final state. Hopefully, I'll do a bit of polishing tomorrow before publishing.
Also, this is the first time we've participated in a game jam! I think it turned out pretty good, all things considered.
Still need to think of a proper name...
A (not so) basic tuto... for fire sound !

Core - complete! Eat and go make game content :fire:

Just gotta focus on sound & vfx now.

I don't see anywhere to rate games. I submitted my compo game, shouldn't I see some stars somewhere on each page?
Is something broken or am I missing something?
They all look like this:

Tomorrow we will finish it!

See you tomorrow jammers!
randomly at the at the worst posble time unity radnomly desided all my inputs dont work
then woke up feverishly inspired on how to salvage my tetris game's code and fix it
and i was right but then found Even More Bugs then i lost power & internet for a bit around 5pm edt and had to shut my PC down for about an hour
which is to say I won't be getting anything respectable done for myself for jam, but i am helping a friend with their game, so if that game works out hopefully the site will let my friend add me to their team lol since i already joined event and all so not sure if adding teammates will work on me
if it won't let them add me to team I guess I'll upload whatever I have of my tetris nightmare sometime tomorrow or finish up the Dog Lawyer parts during extra but plan A is friend's game

still thinking about titles, probably wont name it this

It's done! My first ever game jam, first ever game built with unity (or any engine for that matter), as well as many other firsts, and I'm exhausted. After spending the first few hours of the jam still fumbling through bought but lightly used Udemy courses in unity, trying to figure out how I'd implement some basic mechanics, I'm somewhat shocked I managed to get something done on time. It's no masterpiece but it's something.
The unity project started out as something reasonable but quickly morphed into a spaghetti monster that if hunted would provide enough to feed the whole of Italy for a month. Drag and drop components into various script fields, access variables across objects like everybody's variable belongs to everybody (comrade), but in the end it all somehow kinda works.
Made fairly heavy use of UI components without really having any ideea how they work and it almost got me in the end. Had my Game view setup to the ludum dare embed resolution the whole weekend only to find out about 20 minutes into the submission hour that a bunch of stuff no longer aligns on any resolution not exactly matching that resolution (and the embedding does not enforce anything). Thankfully managed to fiddle with the project settings enough to generate a build with the specific LD resolution constraint and no webgl full screen bar. The Simpson back fat meme is real.
While I was fully aware of how you must always reduce your scope cuz you aint gonna have the time, looking back on my original feature list, it's amazing how much I thought I could get done. I've never drawn a tile map before in my life and yet here I was planning a city level with buildings, and sidewalks, and hey if I have some extra time maybe some lightning for a cyber punk aesthetic. Yea right.
The jam theme was something I hated on Friday. It seemed gimmicky and not my kind of thing. I figured I would just do something random and ignore the theme. Forced myself however to try and think of something and in the end I'm quite happy with the direction it took me. We're flooded with information, notifications, subscriptions, pop-ups, etc, and I liked trying to shine a light on this ideea of overstimulation by taking it to the extreme. Even managed to get some kind of story out of it. Nothing I'd take to her parents of course, but something that could potentially grow.
Finally, this concept of over digitalisation reminded me of a mural I've seen in a tube station in Bucharest. I've pictured it above. Below is my derivative work built on top of my 16px character:

In parallel, the first prototype is ready. I believe in my guys :3

I don't think we're going to hit the deadline. Time will tell. Enjoy some of the assets we made along the way :D

After 2 days i've finally completed my first game jam :) Slime cat is a simple puzzle platformer with a cute cat that happens to be a slimey creature!

What do you think about "Fire in the Wool" ?

Had a blast working with a few friends on this one. Overall, game out really good, this is my first time coming back to Ludum Dare since about 2018! Had a great time!

Go check it out.

At the moment, we're wrapping up our jam game; however, I plan on making a solo Extra entry after the three days. Unfortunately, the page I had for a solo entry seems to have been removed from the My Game link now that I am part of a team game listing.
Is there a way I can recover the placeholder page I had for my own game before joining a team so that both games are listed under my profile?
We're working on a game about making games. One of the most important parts of making a game is petting cats... Right?

An alien lifeform stalks the corridors of the ship. It listens for the noise you make when you are near it, and it will charge at you ravenously if you're spotted. Fortunately for you, light causes the creature pain. If only you could keep the power on for longer than 10 seconds!
Stalk through the ship, find the missing parts to fix the generator, and avoid the alien in the darkness.

But I've spent about two times this editing the engine's source code to implement new stuff for the jam. Still cool to see how many hours actually creating stuff in the editor. I'll make sure to post the final stats here once I'm done with the game.

Can anyone upload an game to embed?
Finished my mess of a game

I was really hoping to have the core gameplay functionality finished this evening so I could spend tomorrow polishing things up, but I've spent significantly more time wrestling with UI and sprite design than I have on implementing functionality. That's lack of experience in UI/pixel art for you... but I'm not ready to give up yet!
However I did make some noticeable progress:
Some parts require other parts or tools to gather
You can see what you have in your inventory, handy tooltip included
I only have one bit of core functionality left to do: building and launching the boat. I'd also like to add a simple start screen with basic instructions.
Time for some sleep so I can wake up early and refreshed and hopefully get a decent chunk of time in tomorrow!
I just spent 3 hours debugging my pathfinding spaghetti only to learn that if I accidentally set it to pathfind to the terrain🎉🎉🎉🙈
Who needs a snake charmer when you can get all the practice you need right here! Enter the world of Hebi Heaven, where you can meet vipers, pythons and colubrids all day (in 10 second increments). It took me some time but I think a heart is worth it. Can't really go without it.
I finally finished my game Blades of Doom just in time for the end of the weekend!
This was my 3rd time participating in Ludum Dare and I had a fun time once again!
I look forward to getting to play other games in the upcoming weeks!

hey! I just came back for my first Ludum Dare in a long while - seems like a lot has changed since my last jam like 8 years ago. I know there used to be a way to search for games by keyword, but I can't seem to find that anymore. Was that feature lost when the LD site moved? Is anyone still maintaining an unofficial browser with more robust search support?

Want to see how long you can survive stranded on a hostile alien planet? Contend with random stat changes and modifiers that change every 10 seconds to always keep you on edge. Play Gamma Protocol Here.
I spent so much time messing around with various animation solutions and root motion, which is a frequent time sink for me because I really like for things to be "just so", and so I don't have anywhere close to what I wanted for a submission. At the same time I had a lot of fun screwing around with animations and applying root motion so I'm calling it a net win whatever the outcome.
In any event, doing so much in such a short time has made me feel much better about returning to my longer-term projects after this. The deadline of the jam makes it so much more essential to be decisive and to use your existing knowledge and skills that afterwards I feel so much more capable than I have in a while.
Long story short, jam == fun even without finishing!
It's been quite the weekend with my first game jam and first game developed ever. I was in charge of sound effects, play testing, and level design, and I learned a ton about recording, editing, creating sounds, and foley work. I think our team has come up with a great little colourful bullet hell game with the prompt. Come try our game, and use the #cliquehellhigh to follow our game on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram! https://sesopenko.itch.io/clique-hell-high
Hey! go play and rate my game on https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/groovy-wars ... I too will rate your games and give feedback... Peace
the game isn't ready

The scope of this game turned out to be too much for me to do in a weekend. It won't take much longer to finish, I'd just rather spend some more time than try to rush things.
Anyway, here's fireballs (featuring placeholder explosion animation).

Made an entry in a day, as I had other things going on this weekend. Still pretty pleased with the result!

Especially when your work is a corner shop. It feels like you get a new customer every 10 seconds!

Plus, my young daughter doesn't help. I love her, but she needs a lot of help!

Our entry is still coming along nicely! :)
I'm super excited to say that I have successfully completed my first Ludum Dare compo! I didn't get much sleep, but it was definitely worth it to create the game I have now. In Soul of Seasons, you must wander the forest to gather pieces of a mysterious artifact. However, the season changes every ten seconds, which transforms the environment and alters which paths you can take.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/soul-of-seasons

I was going to post here from time to time, to keep myself motivated and focused, but didn't find time for that, guess I'l do it now. I haven't seen a pillow for a while, my back hurt and my hands are numb, but i finished all the visuals (almost). Thank god for my coding friend, I have no clue how would I make all this alone. The game is not finished yet, visuals are 90-95% done, coding is 60-70% done, it will probably be done before the time runs out , sounds were not been touched at all yet but i have a really bad plan how to finish all of it in an hour. Im not sure if the game will be finished complitely, we have cuted corners left and right, but it will be playable and maybe, i hope, somewhat enjoyable.
Oh, i copeletely forgot, the game, yeah... It's more a toy, or a bunch of minigames tied together, you need to do simple actions in a 10 second timeframe over and over several times in a row, the ammount of things you need to manage simultaneously will grow. We were planning to make much more variants of minigames, so the game could shuffle them and force the you to play different ones, to prevent the player from getting too much comfortable to the minigames, but again, time is not unlimited so all these features will stay in my dreams, at least for a while. Right now we have 6 planed minigames, If smthing goes very wrong, there will be 5, i hope. Oh, I nearly forgot again, one of the minigames is smthing special, smthing you have never seen before, cause to win in it you will need to press ONE BUTTON EVERY 10 SECONDS, yeah, i know...astonishing.
Here is the full game field, you will have to use both the keyboard and the mouse.

After a short night it is time to begin playing all of your games. This is a part almost as good as coding, or getting reviews. I am so impressed with all the games here, in my eyes, all of us are winners.
If you would like me to play your game, leave a coment. If you would like som physics chaos feel free to play my game Satellite Commander. I would be thrilled if you could give me a rating as well.

some clues of what lies in the deepest corner of a haunted forest... or maybe it's just a bouffet?

I don't seem to be able to see the rating buttons after I open a game. I need to log out and log in for the ratings buttons to appear, and I have to do it for every game.
Edit: Weird, now that I wrote this post, all the rating buttons start appearing :/
The game has basically taken shape, currently doing the level design, I hope everything comes in time, carton buggy start!

Hi jamming folks, I decided to stop it here. I'm really happy with the result, it was one of my best jam and I hope for you too.
Sadly, I don't know how to do music and sfx so I couldn't get into compo, maybe next time !
Here is my game : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/z-o-m-b-i-e-s
It's a typing game inspired by the Textorcist, but you get weapons and kill zombies.
Hope you'll have a good time and tell me how much you score, I went past 600 !
I'm happy I had time to update the game and do some more work, you now have a sniper that deals damages in a line and some better balancing :).

Part of the UI we made for the game!

I was busy cuz I had to attend an occasion, started devving just now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91N8bYAOuKg

We added several more minigames and started working on some of the final art. It's finally coming together. Day 3 will be a lot of art, music and polish.

I am going to share a little bit about the development journey of my compo entry. As usual I didn't have much time during the weekend so I went with the Lua framework I build on top of my C engine as it would give me all the speed I need to come up with something 2D without having to fight with other engines.
It took me a long time to finally come up with an idea, though. I had tens of different ideas but none of them really felt like it would embrace the theme and make it a meaningful mechanic. So, after hours of brainstorming, I decided to give it a try at something I never did before: a card/city builder mix.
I started big and scaled down the design in such a way to have to manage a minimal amount of variables and interactions between the different gameplay elements.
The result is that you get 4 cards per turn. Each turn lasts exactly 10 seconds. You have some energy that you spend to play the cards. Playing cards let you build different kind fo buildings. At the end of the turn, your town is hit by a disaster that you cannot avoid. But your energy replenishes and you get some new cards. Rinse and repeat and try to make your town survive as long as possible.
I also narrowed down the amount of buildings you can have to just 8 to make it a little bit harder.
I would have wanted to let you place the buildings on a map, have some people move around, have animations and nice looking graphics but I didn't have the time for it. I managed to squeeze in some basic graphics, some music and sound effects and then had to call it finished, even if it needed a lot of polish, still.
I hope you will enjoy it nonetheless. Here is the link to the game:
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/unlucky-town
I didn't realized that I ticked that, as many people play my game, and write review on it, I was so glad and feeling so great. But when I found there is no rate on my game, I confused, and then, I found I ticked the casual mode(Opt-out of ratings)
Glad suddenly turns into sadness.
Testing the Level

There is a lot of reflection I need to do about this whole jam experience. It was a real struggle! Moreso than usual. But I got there in the end (even if it runs badly on the web).
For now... I'm going to literally sleep for 12 hours.
It's been just a few hours, but we've received so many comments on our Ludum Dare 51 Game Jam submission. Wow, thank you for all of this kind feedback already! It’s all extremely helpful and much appreciated! (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)
