Cortex Control – Post-mortem

Cortex Control was my second compo attempt and my first finished entry. I feel like I accomplished what I was going for and I’m fairly happy with how it turned out. At first I was a bit disappointed when I woke up and saw the theme, but I changed my mind pretty quickly when I came up with the idea of a top down stealth shooter with mind control.

I made most of my progress during the first day. I knew what I was going for and got most of the game mechanics done. Halfway through the second day I felt like I was done, but it soon got a lot more hectic when I had only a few hours left and ran into problems with LibGDX and Gradle.

Looking back at it I wish I had experimented with mouse controls, worked more on the music, added a menu and tweaked the difficulty a bit, but for a first entry I think I did pretty well.

Tools used: Eclipse, LibGDX, Gimp, Bfxr, Aucacity, LMMS

Has to be my favourite entry so far, I have played some games with nice mechanics and some incredible pixel art but I spent by far more time playing this that any other game. It is loads of fun and has a good difficulty level.

With two days left to vote it’s time for some shameless self-promotion!

Cortex Control is a top-down stealth shooter where your only weapon is mind control.

This was my first LD entry and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I’m also rewriting the game in C++ now and planning on turning it into a full game. Check it out and make sure to tell me what you think: Cortex Control
