Weekend Derailed: Still Playable!
Well my weekend went down the toilet and I probably spent 1/4th the time I intended to working on my game. Still, I got a pretty decent prototype done. It's not super polished, but I like the idea and think other people will like it too!
I had a few ideas, but the one I landed on was a wave defense game where your "towers" need to sense the enemies and send targeting information to the offensive structures. A survey radar would periodically ping, checking what's out there every so often. It sends its data to a narrow band radar that can lock onto a single target and ping it repeatedly. That sends its data to a turret which shoots at the signal. I got this down and it's pretty cool to see the signals propagate across the network!
At this point between interrupted sleep and random errands I was have a really tough time with motivation. I took a long break to hang out with friends before getting back to it. I knew I wasn't going to finish, but it was important to me that I at least saw it through. I decided the best thing I could do was just add some polish to what I had. I added some sound effects, replaced most of the placeholder art, and added a couple effects.
In the end I didn't finish what I wanted, but I didn't give up! I'm really happy with how the radar pulses look and how the core mechanic worked out. I got better at using a handful of new tools and improved at shader code.
Check it out and let me know what you think! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/59/$428343
