LD13

Hey there

Hello everyone. As you can see i’m new here, and i plan to participate in LD13. I’ll use my own game framework, which uses, Opengl, SDL, SDL_mixer, SDL_image etc. You can find the library here. Right now, there is only an old version is available from the sf.net project site but i’ll upload the current version before LD13 starts. Also i want to apologize for the damage you’ll suffer from graphics i’ll make for my game. It will be hard but i’ll do my best :).

Finally I have got something to show

Yes! First screenshot of my game. From the main menu. Nothing much, but still nice :).

And here is my devlog.

My game is a post-apocaliptic rpg with cars and dangerous roads. It is going to be like Fallout meets Road Fighter.

Right now i’m finishing menus. Still no gameplay but fear not! I think i’ll finish this baby.

On The Road [FINAL]

On The Road is a small post-apocalyptic rpg game with cars. It should have been a better game but i had to cut lots of features and stuff to finish before the deadline. But after the deadline, i’ll continue working on this.

Here is my devlog.

And here is the linux binary&source codes. I’ll post windows binary tomorrow.

UPDATE: Windows port is here.

Sorry for the trouble. A friend of mine did the windows port. I’ll ask him.

Late windows port

A friend of mine helped me to port my game to windows just after the compo but there were some problems and i didn’t have time to deal with them. Because of that windows port was pretty useless, but now with the help of another friend i manage the got another windows port of my game. I hope this one works.

LD15

I’m ready!

It will be my second Ludum Dare. With aggressive viral marketing i manage to get some friends enter too. Can’t wait for it :).

Code: c++/ ilmarin ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/ilmarin my own game framework). I’ll upload the latest version of it tomorrow.

Gfx: GIMP with regular old mouse.

Sfx: maybe sfxr (if i can manage to run it on my linux machine, i dunno never tried it before)

There is no scrolling, animation or collision detection but still it is an improvement :)

windows port

Cross-Compiling rocks! So here is the windows port.

I’m still to tired but tomorrow i’ll write a postmortem and hopefully give you the macosx port with the help of a good friend :).

Postmortem – A Matter of Bla Bla Bla

Ok I’m not gonna write that long name again :).

This was my second ludum dare and i again manage it make it :). At the first one i did choose a very ambitious project (making a post-apocalyptic rpg with car combat, yes it was really ambitios :)). In the end i had to cut lots of stuff to finish it before time ends. This time i was ready for this. I knew what i had to expect. But again some unexpected things happened, but in the end i make a playable game and have fun (maybe not all the time :)). So it’s time for a postmortem and i’m going to do this in a very cliché method :).

The Good:

– I finished a playable game before time runs out :).

– My framework really helped me a lot. I didn’t have any technical problem. And after the compo, making a windows port was really easy. Mac port is coming in a few days too. I don’t have to change a single line of code to make these ports, it’s all because of my shitty framework. It’s badly designed but it does its job well :).

– A couple of friend of mine entered to the compo with me. As they say: The more the merrier :).

The Bad:

– I couldn’t find a game idea that i was satisfied. Just this problem took my first day.

– While i couldn’t come up with an good idea, my code wasn’t better. I started coding a simple shooter but i don’t know why, i couldn’t code it properly and i write probably the one of the worst codes i have ever written :(.

– Maybe i finished it before time expired but game still lacks lots of things like there is nothing kills the player. So all those cave critters you killed actually just wanted to hug you :).

The Ugly:

– My graphics. That is what ugly is. Man, i started gimp and make those. But just i finished those i look at them and lost all my aspiration. It took lots of time for me to recover that loss.

So thats it. I can only hope that at my third LD i’ll finally come up with a fun to play game :).
