Ludum Dare 54

My first LD Theme Suggestion

OK, This my first participation of Ludum Dare and I'm quiet excited now. I have submitted theme suggestions like this:

BTW I'm wondering if I can finish the entry during the jam...

2023 Sep. 20 Update: I have changed one of my theme submissions from 'Gravity' to 'Rock, Paper, Scissors'.

Planning a challenging journey with LD54

I will use Unreal engine(using hybrid development with Blueprint scripting and C++), Paint.Net, and OpenMPT to participate in my first Ludum Dare experience. And yes, 'I' use the engine.

Since Unity shows some disappointing aspects these days, My 4-years discipline of learning game developement with Unreal instead of Unity and collecting free assets from Marketplace have not been wasted. The only problem is that it is difficult to chase the newest feature of Unreal alone because it is such a huge engine and its developing process is quite speedy.

During LD54 I will work alone with Unreal, but next time(Maybe LD55) I will call my friend who is familiar with UE5. I participated other game jam before, made a game without using game engine, failed to submit game just in time. I learned a good experience that I must make simple in-game system using game engine when the time is extremely limited and I have to work alone. But now I have noticed that I may need some collegues that can speak Korean and familiar with UE5.

Too much jobs are waiting this weekend for me...

Update: I might opt out graphics rating because I may use free assets not created by me depending on the theme.

When does the final vote end?

Does it end with the start of the jam? I cannot find any notice about that.

Ahhh... A bug in my submission...

My submission has a bug related to game over screen where some actor doesn't disappear in game over state in specific situation. But I cannot reproduce and debug it inside Unreal Editor. The bug appears only in the packaged build.

Now I'm thinking that next time I should use only Visual Studio to make a game using Unreal Engine. Making Games with Unreal Editor and Blueprint scripting still needs long times for enhancement...

Only 3 more ratings left!

I made a shoot 'em up game with Unreal Engine 5 and this is my first entry of the jam. I have received 17 ratings now and can be ranked with 3 more ratings! Please check my game and give me some feedback so I can continue the development, implementing better gameplay!

Ludum Dare 55

Yay! First Compo Submission!

Well, after experiencing some troubles related to 2D sprite import when making 2D games with Unreal Engine 5, I migrated my game making tool from UE5 to Godot Engine 3. And I have made a simple game for LD55 now.

Do not use UE5 for 2D games with top-down view. That is my lesson.

My next plan

8 Days left until 'Rating games ends' and My LD55 submission still needs ratings.

I have fixed the player's movement and now it accelerates and decelerates faster. But I will leave the original version here and I just added my GitHub repo's release link in the description. so it will not violate the rules.

After the end of rating games, I am planning an engine migration for my LD54 submission, Metagirls from UE5 to Godot 3. I have placed all sprites of this shoot'em up game in XZ plane and this was a huge mistake. So I will completely remake this with Godot engine so that no more critical errors will occur (and rotating all objects to XY Plane for each 2D sprite import in UE5 is such a hassle).

And I need to get a job from now on. I might not enter LD56 and my game remaking project will proceed slowly.
