Ludum Dare 59

I'm in

Hello! I'm CodeAprèsMinuit, and here are my theme suggestions for Ludum Dare 59: - Dream - Illusion

I think I'll use PICO-8 because it's a minimalist game development environment and it's easy to share a game. See you on April 17!

I voted

For this Ludum Dare, I created a two-column table: one for themes and one for ideas. I vote for the themes that inspire me the most. Interestingly, some themes that didn’t appeal to me at first, like “Chains” and “The Wrong Tool for the Job”, ended up inspiring me more than the others. I'm excited ! Voted !

Wow, my theme made it to round 2! I find a lot of these themes interesting, but I need to narrow it down and make some choices.Capture d'écran 2026-04-14 220348.png

My tool(s)

Hello! I'm choosing the PICO-8 for its simplicity. Everything will be integrated, from code management to the sprite and its music. It's going to be fun!

I plan to participate for 48 hours. Looking forward to tomorrow :-) Also, my votes. Capture d'écran 2026-04-16 203347.png

Setup is OK!

Hey! My setup for this jam is ready.

If you're interested in a similar setup, here’s what I’m using:

  • Pico-8
  • A terminal
  • Visual Studio Code with two extensions:
    • Pico8-ls
    • pico8-theme
  • A font: Pico-8 Regular
  • Pico8 doc
  • No AI Enregistrement 2026-04-17 195101.gif Good jam, everyone!

Ideas

Hello! I have two ideas for this jam 🙂

I’ll go with the first one since it’s simpler, but I think the second has strong potential for later.

First idea:
A goblin keeps bothering us by stealing our flags. The goal is to hold onto your flag until the end of the turn so the command is sent to the army :D

Second idea:
A similar concept, but with 4 players: 2 goblins and 2 flag commanders. The goblins try to steal the enemy’s flags, while the players must defend them.

Time to code it with Pico-8 :-)

Finished !

In Flaglot, you must select a flag to send an attack command to your unit.

Each flag represents a different order: red for rage, blue for defense, and a lighter red for attack.

I couldn’t implement everything I had planned—I especially wanted to add a very annoying goblin that steals your flags! I also wanted to include waves of monsters to fight.

It was still really fun to make!

Good luck to everyone who hasn’t finished yet! Capture d'écran 2026-04-19 210833.png Prototype : Capture d'écran 2026-04-18 124307.png Capture d'écran 2026-04-18 124241.png
