Having to rewrite the physics engine

Turns out I made a mistake and have to redo the physics engine for the player… Disappointing but now I know not to do it again!

I’ll probably be playing some Smash 4 and learn Mewtwo in a break a few hours from now as all I need left is to finalize the combat, draw about 60 more pictures (most are just edits) and then write some music 馃槈

I had to rewrite almost all game mechanics…still stuggling :P…good luck! 馃槈

Will be ACTUALLY livestreaming tomorrow

Crazy concept, I know. Most of my code is done so I’ll just be making art for the rest of the weapons as well as taking suggestions for randomly generated weapons. http://hitbox.tv/BtheDestroyer

Just got a really good idea for a second game

So I’m almost done with my first game and got a REALLY good idea for another one. I’ll probably enter it in the Jam if possible 馃槈

That sounds cool, I haven’t heard of someone doing that before.

Does anyone know the coolness required to get gold?

This is my second Ludum Dare and I didn’t see anything about a specific number.

I guess it could change but for maximum coolness you need to rate 100 games.

Most original idea ever! You won鈥檛 believe it!

So I was sitting there… wondering what to do.

“I could literally just make the player a monster…” But that was too boring.

“You could make it about the economy with monopolies and such…” Nah, would go over the heads of a few people and be too complicated.

What’s something that everyone on the internet sees and things ‘you monst-‘

“Got it.”

Hurray for maths

First formula with my game. One of the most complex I’ve had to make for something so simple, actually: The starting money you get depending on the difficulty.

I should explain, when you start the game, depending on how hard it is, you’ll be given more or less money so to device how much you get, I wrote this formula.

I started with a simple y=x^2 and noticed the immediate problems of
1. The player gets LESS money the easier it is.
2. the growth scale is broken so you get more exponentially (no way, exponents)

Then I changed it to be y=log(x) and it looked a bit better. No more crazy exponential growth. (I knew I took Calculus for something)

Of course, it’s still getting bigger as the difficulty gets higher, so I made it y=-1*log(x) and get an equation that starts high and ends low with a nice curve.

Next I made it a bit more complicated (squared an X here, did some random division there, multiply by a big number to inflate the result at the end) and get a fairly good graph.

Check out the graph and equation here

I know it could have been simpler, but I like having crazy long math done for something that seems pretty simple, ya know?

Looks like my enthusiasm for the jam after the theme was announced…

Huzzah! Action Slider!

There’s 2 but the second one (actually, 3 but it’s all 1 slider) gives spoilers about the game so no spoiling the surprise!

Simple fake clock done

It’ll move faster or slower depending on the difficulty (16 IRL seconds = 1 in-game hour by default)

Just felt good testing my own game

Just tested my game to see if it was good or I should start over. Started getting points and felt really excited even though the game’s incredibly simple and kind of silly. Mission accomplished.

Graph!

If you don’t know, my game’s called click-bait simulator so I made a graph to show how many views your posts have:

Nothing more monstrous than Buzzfeed…

ClickBait: Update Screenshot

Decided to just draw strings rather than using a Rich-Edit Text box. I also decided to add some Skills such as your blog’s Bandwidth that limits the number of people that can visit your blog’s posts.

ClickBait: Totally crazy random chance

So the blog post titles in ClickBait are randomly generated by taking 2 terms from a list of 250 terms.

In the 62,500 chance they’re both the same thing, I ended up getting:
