Echoes of the Deep

I’m proud to present Echoes of the Deep, my game for Ludum Dare 57! 🎮

My last Ludum Dare was 8 years ago, so it feels great to finally jump back in and create something new! Despite starting late on Saturday at noon, I managed to create this game using TypeScript and, for the first time, the Phaser framework. It was a challenging yet rewarding experience, and I’m really happy with the outcome.

Game Concept

Echoes of the Deep is an infinite scroller with a rogue-like twist, set in a dark and mysterious underwater world. You pilot a submarine, and the only way to see your surroundings is through the use of sonar. The sonar reveals the contours of objects and enemies around you, but be careful — it also attracts danger. Your goal is to survive as long as possible while navigating through increasingly hazardous depths.

Roguelike Features

Each run is unique, with endless procedurally generated depths that grow more challenging as you dive deeper. As you explore, you'll collect resources and power-ups that can help you upgrade your submarine, giving you a better chance of surviving the deeper and more dangerous levels.

After each death, you can spend collected currency to enhance your submarine, improving various attributes like speed, sonar range, and firepower. Choose your upgrades wisely, as each decision can drastically change the way you approach your next dive.

The deeper you go, the more intense the enemies become, making each dive a new and exciting challenge. Whether it's increasing the frequency of enemy encounters or introducing new threats, the game constantly adapts to keep you on your toes.

One Bar - A conceptual experiment

ONE BAR is a one-shot signal ritual.

You get one transmission. That’s it. Your location becomes your score.

You move, you search, you try to find a better spot. Then you stop, you hold still, and you commit.

The idea was to make something that feels physical and a bit tense, where the real world actually matters. Not something you grind. Just one deliberate action that you have to decide when to take.

Find the highest signal you can, then lock it in forever.

How it works:

  • The game reads your location once
  • It computes a signal strength from your environment
  • You hold to transmit
  • Your score is written permanently to the ledger

Best played on mobile, outside, while moving around. The more people try it the best result we will get! Desktop works, but it’s not really the best experience!

Thanks all!
