This was actually less scary than I imagined

I only picked up game dev as a hobby like a month ago and I then learned about the concept of game jams and was like “who in their right mind will waste their time on this instead of focusing on building something that will last?”. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Having done it now and managing to finish a game within 72 hours for the first time, I can see why. Experimentation, iteration and most importantly the community is what this is about and also looking at what other people do and how they present their ideas has been eye opening.

I am really grateful to be able to experience this. Good luck to everyone ❤️

The feedback is honestly amazing

Some of the feedback I received on my little game was truly something I hadn’t even considered, it’s just mind blowing that when you develop a game and you play it so much, all it takes is a minute or two for someone else to play and say “hey this can be done a bit better by doing X”.

I have also decided to not act on any of the feedback until the voting and ratings have ended as I want to keep the game as is throughout the process. I just think it wouldn’t be fair. Posting updates after the jam has ended feels like I am going against the spirit of the process but that is just me, I wouldn’t personally judge anyone if they decide to do this.

If a player has identified a real show stopper then absolutely yes, a fix should be added. Anyway, enough rambling. I did not expect to generate so much attention and I am grateful to anyone who has given me 5 minutes of their time to play something that I made. Thank you ❤️

I couldn't have asked for a better result, really happy!

My first game jam 1 month afer picking up Godot and game dev in general.

I actually thought I wouldn't be able to finish and submit but somehow managed.

If anyone reads this and is on the fence to try - go for it, the learning experience alone is worth far more than building a game in isolation!

Massive thank you to everyone that played my game, it means a lot!

Next, a post-mortem is in the works and I am planning a post-jam update to address the feedback. Not really expecting anyone to come and play the game again but it is important for me to get it done.

What a ride, see you in October! <3

Second jam, can't be more excited

Joining this year in April with less than 20 hours of game dev experience was something I thought was way out of my depth but it turned out to be one of the best decisions ever.

Fast forward 6 months since that moment, I have a little bit more experience but still quite nervous and cannot wait to see all of your games and to see what I can do too!

I am also very excited that the theme I suggested is in the final theme voting, if you are split (wink wink) between a few themes, just pick the ones you think you will do best in and have fun :v:
