LD20

I am.. “in”

So, I will give Ludum Dare a try, I love what everyone has created during the competitions. I am not sure if it will be the competition or the Jam, still need to hear from a friend. I’ve got a good experience with C++, Java and Unity, but I think that Flash is the way to deliver quickly. Anyway, here are my tools of choice.

  • FlashDevelop
  • Flixel or Flashpunk (still need to slash through some tutorials)
  • Gimp
  • SFRX
  • Never created any music. I am thinking about beatboxing on a mic and then fixing it with Audacity.. or not
  • Girlfriend to bring food (which will cost me a lot later)
  • Hyperactive coffe mode

Well, let’s see what I can come up with. See ya!

Ready, set..

Right! So I talked to my friend and we are entering the Jam to finish a prototype for one idea that is lurking in our heads for some time. We are trying to get an artist to help too, so your eyes don’t bleed when you see what we created. We are verrrrry excited with this.

Change of plans, really IN for the compo now

OK, so everyone that was going to help me this weekend got other plans, so I will enter the compo and create everything from scratch. Tonight I will upload a picture of my den, stock food and set up emergency numbers on my phone.

So nervous I might throw up

Right, back from the grocery, bought about R$ 150,00 of food (a soda can is R$ 3,50) and supplies, and I still have to install the software I am gonna use. And this is my first time, please be gentle 😀

Uh, maybe you wouldn’t be so eager to BARF if you didn’t just spend 150 thousand dollars on snacks!!!

Back on track!

God damned. This morning I had to go to my company’s office to work, so no dev. Yesterday I went completely off at about 4 AM. I decided what kind of game I would make, looked at some tutorials and thought about the story of the game. As my game will be GUI intensive, I am switching to Flex and building to a SWF, as it is easier to use Spark components. My objective is to have a fully playable version (with a crappy mock story) by 1700 today.

Kicking the bucket..

Well, I tried my best to finish something in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 20, but I don’t think that what I’ve done is good enough to submit. Saturday morning I had to work with other stuff and kind of lost the time today at noon. Couldn’t pull off an all nighter too, didn’t sleep very well during the week.

My idea was to make a gamebook in Flash with a nice story and some branching, put under control by the variables system I implemented. Loading scenes from a file, checking conditions and applying effects is working, but I wanted to make an inventory and a map too. I left the story and illustrations to be made after I finished the application, so… REALLY bad planing. Here are the screenshots of the unfinished app.

One thing I remembered quickly after starting: drawing pretty stuff is hard and time consuming. Next time I will try to make a better plan and keep my weekend really free.
