"Deathtective" just released!

cover.png

Our (@Myezko & @5apper) submission for LD57 just got released!

"Deathtective" is a story-driven detective game, which centers around Death (the player), who is tasked with conducting an in-depth investigation to solve the mystery of a murder of one Brian.

What makes this case extraordinary is the fact that the murder occurred in the building at 666 Styx Avenue in the depths of the Purgatory.

Check every corner of the place, talk to all the witnesses and slowly but surely discover what really happened the day of the crime.

BUT REMEMBER!

Don't be hasty, as every clue you find might change your whole perspective...

What happens when a murder is commited in the afterlife?

Deathtective centers around this idea!

Become Death, the grim reaper, who works a second job (after guiding the souls to the great beyond); being the so called flawless detective, who solves the darkest criminal cases in the depths of the Purgatory.

When a man was brutally killed in the building at 666 Styx Avenue, you were the first to get called to the scene. Search every corner of the house, interrogate every witness and find out who is the true criminal.

Play Deathtective

Death & detective - is there a better combination out there? (Of course not)

Have you ever felt cheated by life, because you never got to learn what happens when these two words get combined? Be desperate no more!

Because, from the creators of... well nothing aside from this game yet, comes the greatest release in the history of greatest releases -

Deathtective!

Crime is an everyday thing back here on Earth, but what about the afterlife? Who should be called to the scene when a murder occurs in the depths of the Purgatory? Well of course the so called 'flawless detective' itself - Death!

But seriously, we worked really hard on this game and it came out rather nicely, you should try giving it a shot :)

Some art from Deathtective

While both of us are mostly programmers, the art for Deathtective came out unexpectedly rather nice.

Here's some of the sprites we created:

The first version of Death (without the top hat yet):

And the final version:

The title screen went through multiple iterations too:

For a bit there was an alternative, more pixelized version of the title screen as well:

titleemscreen/empa.png

We also created two versions of the murder victim's dead body, one for when the player inspects it:

brian.png

And one for to be used when the player is walking around it:

And a screenshot from the development of the elevator mechanic:

And one of the first sketches of the general idea for the gameplay:

During those three days we did so much work, it seemed like a week at least :D

We're call-lecting ratings for Call Lector!

### We kinda need a few more ratings for our game Call Lector (Right now we only have 13).

So, if you want to help us out with getting qualified, or just want to play a (probably) good, or at least decent game, give it a try (it takes around 20-30 minutes to 100% it, but you can play for as long as you want).
