LD27 August 23–26, 2013

I’m in! (Hopefully.)

I will be attempting to complete a game, although I’ll be on a bit of a tight schedule.

Toolset:

  • GameMaker Studio
  • GIMP (Potentially)
  • Ableton Live
  • SFXR/BFXR (Potentially)

I wish much luck to everyone!

I’m In

I’m not super feeling it, but I’m in.

Tools:

Unity

modo

Photoshop

Probably going to use my node-based behavior library, as well. If you’d like to use it, it’s available at https://github.com/Cambrian-Man/Marrow … not a ton of docs, but it’s pretty easy to use and designed for jamming.

If you can tolerate a semi-noob eager to learn, I would join a jam.

First time trying this!

This is my first game jam, im so exited! 😀

Language/Lib: Java with slick2d

Graphics: Paint.net

Sounds: sfxr

Declaration of code libraries

Getting ready for LD this weekend! Since I do have some basic code I’d rather not use the 48 hours to rewrite, I’m posting it publically here as per the rules for personal code libraries. Basically these are a handful of UI classes I wrote on top of Quintus, along with my modified version of the Quintus library that includes a few fixes and tweaks.

Here’s the class library

Here’s the modified version of Quintus

I’m in!

I’ll be participating in my second LD Jam. I’ll be doing the programming, while a few friends will do all art, music, and sound.

Language: Java

Library: Slick2D

IDE (if anybody cares): InteliJ Idea

Can’t wait to see all the games everyone makes! Good luck to all!

What tools are you going to be using for sound and graphics? That’s important too!

Hey there master,

I’m In

This will be my third Ludum Dare.

Here are my tools:

Engine>>Unity 4;

(Also, I might use some of the default character controllers)

Modeling>>Blender;

IDE>>Javascript;

2d textures>> Paint or Paint.net;

Sound>>Audacity & my keyboard;

I’m really looking forward to this. Good luck everyone, and may the best game win!

I’m in!

I’m in, this will be my 4th LD!
I’ll be using Construct 2, FLstudio, Adobe Photoshop and Flash (for animations).

Last LD, I had an idea for a space opera game.
But I got down with panic attacks on the first day, and I decided to take care of myself and it never got made, sadly. I’ve got so little time :(

But this time I’m back with a vengeance.

Meanwhile the idea spawned this;

character design

And I want to make it so much. I love having games ‘in the bank’

Good luck to everyone and have lots of fun!

I don’t know if in or not…

I have posted saying I will be in, which I fully want to live up to. But at the same time, some of these themes are just a bit too dark for me.

Just to name a few:

-Darkness
-Desperation
-Powerless

IF any of these are picked, I’m out. I can’t deal with any more dark shit in my life (let alone 1500 other people’s take on it) right now. Sorry.

Sorry to hear it. Yeah, those themes can be interpreted in a lot of morbid ways. :/

I only interpret Desperation that way. Darkness made me think of shadows and stealth. I even thought Powerless was fun as it made me think of Super Mario Bros without any power-ups 😛

O hai, a compo!

The agenda is clear for the weekend, and I’m back for my fifth LD.

Joining the jam last time was fun, and I’m really happy with the game we built, but since there were only two of us and we both had to work on Monday, competition was pretty fierce. Although I mainly do LD as a challenge to myself, the competition element is still important to me, so I prefer the compo which seems a bit fairer — but that’s why it is the compo, and why the jam is the jam, after all. Thus, I’ll be working solo again.

It’ll be a browser game as usual. I considered libgdx + GWT instead of my usual CoffeeScript, but even if I wanted to port the game for a proper and official Android release later, the odds of LD-quality code being good enough are pretty slim, and I’d probably want a full rewrite anyway. Also, using JavaScript ‘directly’ has the huge advantage that you can build UI elements in HTML and leverage CSS3 animations.

Music (if I have time to do it) will be LMMS, and perhaps I’ll use it for some sound effects as well. Actually I might do music early in the weekend, because listening to it over and over will help me set the mood for the rest of the game.

I can do vector art in Inkscape reasonably well nowadays (for a programmer, that is), but I’ve never tried pixel art, so I’d like to practice that this time. For lack of a better tool on Linux, I’ll probably use Gimp. Ideally I’d also like to do something with parallax scrolling, just because I’ve never done it, it’s ridiculously easy to make, and it looks really cool. I hope I can come up with a game that fits the theme and combines both of these — and ideally isn’t a run-of-the-mill platformer either!

LD27 came just in time! The fall semester starts on the 26th. I’ll be taking some gamedev classes, so I’ll be using my entry to see how far I’ve gone since the start of the semester. :)

Tools:

Language: Java

IDE: IntelliJ IDEA, Android Studio if I do an android port

Music: Bfxr, Audacity

Graphics: Paint.NET, GIMP?

Streaming: FFMPEG

Making A Team

How do I make or join a team for the Ludum Dare? I’ve always wanted to join in the competition.

What are your skills? I’m throwing together a team.
20. Aug 2013 · 16:33 UTC
Well, for the Jam you can do the team model. But you could also just do it solo if you want… Really up to you.
20. Aug 2013 · 16:33 UTC
If it’s your first LD I recommend to attend it as an individual competitor.

I would actually recommend the opposite. It can help a lot with time if you have a team with clearly delineated responsibilities, eg: a sound guy, an art guy, a coder, etc. Having multiple people do the same thing can lead to stepping on toes so I would avoid that for such a stressful compo.

An Hour of Programming for My (WORM)Up…

So, I coded live(twitch.tv/nateageek or nateageek.net/live) for an hour. And BAM, added mobs(Although not in this build) and made digging.

SO , UPDATE WITH DIGGING! SO GO DIG, AND DIG TILL DIGGING IS NOT DIGGING BUT LIFE!!!

Check it out!

Nate

I’m actually 14 years old but i love creating things like games so i don’t care what people say.

I really want to create a game with someone, anyone.

I will give you my Skype or Teamspeak name/Id after we’ve talked about a spot in the Ludum Dare Gamehub Team.

Do you have teamspeak?
20. Aug 2013 · 16:39 UTC
No I’m sorry but we could chat with text.
Itero Sobot
20. Aug 2013 · 16:40 UTC
Like IRC? I’ve never done that lol. Skype maybe?
20. Aug 2013 · 17:07 UTC
How should we do it without using speech?
20. Aug 2013 · 19:16 UTC
Nerven3nde from twitch here.

Guess Skype would be the best/ easiest thing to use.
20. Aug 2013 · 19:17 UTC
Ok cool please write some things about yourself.(Like what tools you have and if you can program)
20. Aug 2013 · 19:23 UTC
I’m more a programmer than a graphics guy.
20. Aug 2013 · 19:25 UTC
Ok good are you from Germany? I clicked on your name and the browser redirected me too a page called grimmbart.com

Should we use openfl or haxe?

I can do music and graphics.
20. Aug 2013 · 20:01 UTC
IRC would be the best way. Do you know how to use IRC?

I’m in (too)

I can finally take part in a Ludum Dare. Yay~

I plan to use libGDX (Java it is, of course). I think I’ll use sxfr for sounds, and if I ever go as far as adding music, I may use Aria Maestosa. Graphics will be done with mspaint.exe because frankly, who cares about pixels ? Ok ok, I may use Paint.NET or the GIMP if I have some time to spare. Near the end.

Also, Tiled ! Because I grew tired of editing my level in an array of integers.

Anyway, I cannot wait for the weekend to start. Good luck to everybody taking part in LD27 !

Giddy for LD27

I’m looking forward to the next weekend. Last time was fun but we didn’t actually deliver anything playable. Let this be a lesson, keep the concept simple! This time I’ll go it solo.

Tools I’ll probably use:
– web browser as platform
– JavaScript as programming language
– plain text editor for IDE
– Pixelmator for graphics (if any)

I’m really excited about this one, it will be my second LD. Whatever the theme may be, it’s gonna be great!

Im In Again!

3rd time around for me, I feel like I’m becoming a bit of a vet now! Looking to really expand my game this time around, my plan is to once again finish to a level of polish I’m happy with, but this time I’m going to push the boat out a little, hopefully incorporating some live recorded audio, we shall see how that one goes! On top of that I shall be aiming to support Silverlight directly rather then a post-comp port, which should add an extra layer of complication.

The tools I shall use are c# & XNA, using ExEn for the Silverlight port, Photoshop, bfxr, a guitar and some audio mastering software that I have not yet decided on. As for starting code, this will simply be my Ludum Dare 26 entry copy and pasted over then all the gubbin’s removed (way to evolve an engine!).

This time around I shall be free of my laptop on the sofa work-space of yesteryear:

IMG_2312

And shall instead be working in a real office, for serious people!

IMG_20130820_193943

10 points to anyone from work who sees this and works out who I am from that picture!

Good luck everyone.

I’m In, for the Jam or for the Compo!

Hello everyone,
First, I’ll just re-state that I’m in. I’ll probably make another post in the near future specifying my tools and such.

Now, I’m in the mood for a change this time. I would like to participate in the jam, instead of the compo. Since I’m a programmer, I’m looking for an artist and/or musician to form a good balanced team. If you have interest, reply to my post or send a personal message here. Here are some important stuff you may want to know:

-My time zone is GMT-3.

-I will work with plain Java. No engines, no middleware, only java and it’s base libraries.

-I will not be able to make big changes on the third day. Only 2 or 3 hours at most.
-However, on the rest of the weekend I’ll be able (and will do) work on the game pretty much the whole time.

-My first language is not English, but I guess this will be no problem.

Please, make contact at most 24h before the competition, so we can set everything up correctly. Also, please take a look at my past games to have a grasp at what I can do. Feel free to ask anything else.

Thank you and good Ludum Dare for everyone!

I’m always in~!

Phew~! I managed to fix up my PC so I can do this. I’ve been looking forward to this LD the whole summer. I won’t miss it for anything :]

Anyway, my tools:

  • Code – ActionScript3 or Java
  • Libraries – Flashpunk/Flixel or Java2D
  • IDE – FlashDevelop or Eclipse
  • GFX – Paint.NET
  • SFX – bfxr/sfxr
  • Musicautotracker.py
  • Misc. – tea

I’ll be updating on the progress here :)

I’m in!

I’m in for my fourth LD.
I’ll be using Unity and Visual Studio as usual.
For graphics I’ll be using Photoshop and/or Procreate.
For music and sound I’ll be using inudge, Figure, bfxr,
Audacity and maybe a microphone.
Blender will be used if I’ll be needing any 3d assets.

I’m going to try to have a stream going this time around,

Just bookmarked bfxr, thanks for that. May I should install the Unity webplayer, your previous games looks like a hell of fun (especially the LD24 enty). :)
