LD27 August 23–26, 2013

First LD!

Hi everyone,

This is my first LD contribution :)

I’ll use these tools:

  • Haxe as prog language
  • cfxr for the sounds
  • WolframTones for the music
  • Photoshop for pixel related stuff

No other lib will be used, may be a couple of homebrewed snippets wandering around, but I plan on doing it the hard way hehe

Team SDN is IN for LD27

This will be our third LD. Looking forward to it. I feel we have gotten better with each Jam, and more confident.

{“settings”:

{ “platform”: “many”, “engine”: “Unity”, “compo”: “JAM”, “team members”: 4, “graphics”: [ “Paint.net”, “ArtRage”] }

}

I also want to add a “shameful” plug for a Win8 game we developed for the GameMaker Win Big competition. There is a trial, but you will feel better if you buy it. <LOL>

Hope you like it and please leave feedback. We are re-working some things for a new release in September for multiple platforms.

Time To Game(jam)!

LD27 is coming up and it’ll be my group’s 3rd LD! Unfortunately one of the beards will not be making it so we’re down to 2beards.

We’re changing it up a bit this time around! Listed is the framework we plan to use and tools that I will use.

  • Language: JavaScript/HTML5
  • Framework: Cocos2d-html5
  • IDE: IntelliJ IDEA
  • Art: Photoshop
  • Sounds: GarageBand and bfxr
  • Others: git, jslint, Tiled and TexturePacker

Should be fun!

I’m in!

Hi, it’s been a lot of years i’ve been watching ludum dare competition and I always tought that I wanted to compete too!, so this year I belive I finally have the skills to do something decent.

Programming languages: C#(Monogame) and Game Maker Langauge (Yes, I know, you might think that game maker is bad for doing great games, but it is, in the correct hands of course).

IDE: Visual studio 6-2012, Notepad++.

Graphics: Photoshop, Flash and paint for pixel art.

SFX and Music: Audiomicro and Freesound.

Libraries: Monogame, Xna, .net and any game maker library(called extensions).

Good luck everyone! I want to see big good games this time.

I’m in for LD27!

Here’s the typical post where I state that I am in for LD27 and am really looking forward to it. I participated in LD26 and it ended up being my first commercially released game. In a little over 3 months, I was able to take a simple idea and build it into a finished product that works on Windows, Mac, Linux. I officially released the game today and although the game probably won’t sell that great (It’s a math based puzzle game, it’s appeal is somewhat limited) I am really proud of it and learned a lot in the process. I don’t know if what I make for LD27 will grow into that, but I’m excited about the possibilities. Making games is fun!

Stuff:

  • C# + XNA
  • Monogame for Mac+Linux
  • JSIL for web version – This was really important for my LD26 game. As a result of having a web version, my game got played around 7,000 times. That would have never happened with a traditional download.
  • GIMP for graphics
  • pxTone for music
  • sfxr for sound effects
  • JoeDevGameLib as my basecode

encodingLevel

A Game of Numbers: Get it now!!

It’s a clever math based puzzle game. Basically, if you’re nerdy and you like math, you might enjoy it.

Ludum WAT?

Hey guys, I’m new there and I really want to test myself in this awesome competition! Hope you’ll liked my stuff and I’ll get some XP from you :)

I’m always use some game constructor for prototyping and for LD I’ll use the same, because it’s give me more speed. So here is my tools:

Game Editor: Stencyl 3.0

Graphics: Photoshop CC, ASEPRITE

Sound/Music: My stuff, Jamendo, FreeSound, bfxr, etc.

Welcome to Ludum! 😀 Good luck.

Getting Started

Hello All,

This will be my first foray into the Ludum Dare competition.

I have been developing software as a professional for about 3 years now. I graduated with a Computer Science degree back in 2010. I’m also a hobbyist musician (https://soundcloud.com/hyperbox).

Video games are one of my main inspirations for getting involved with software development. I’ve had a few game projects in the past that never saw fruition, particularly an XNA game and then one for a system called Sifteo. After taking a break for a year, I’m looking at this competition as a great way to get the gears turning again, and to exercise some of the research I’ve been doing on game engines for the past 6 months.

My weakest skill relating to video games is definitely graphic art, but I do have an eye for aesthetics, so I’m hoping I can get crafty enough to compensate for that shortcoming.

For this competition, I will be using the following:

Platform: HTML5 Canvas

IDE: Netbeans

Libraries: Custom engine built upon EaselJS and probably more.

Sound: Reason

Graphics: Pixen

Playing the entries for past competitions has become a little hobby of mine, so I’m delighted to be a part of it this time around. Looking forward to checking out the inevitably awesome submissions for LD27!

I’m in!

Hello from Montreal!

I’ll be probably making a game for this next compo. I’ll be making it in javascript, probably using this cool library called Phaser.js!

Phaser is a full html5 canvas game library for both Typescript and Javascript that says to be heavily based on Flixel (flash). All I hope is that those great developers at Photonstorm release the 1.0 version before the competition. They were supposed to release soon, but they currently got a lot of issues because of the Typescript 0.9.1 update that seemed to make errors all around the place. (That’s what happens when you trust Microsoft. Ok, I’m sorry, Typescript actually does seem pretty cool. But whatever, to use typescript to your ease you have to have visual studio, and to have visual studio you have to have windows, and… naaah. I’ll just stick to plain Javascript. )

Good luck to all of you, and have a happy back-to-school time! Also, Mothman.

I wasn’t aware of Phaser but I’ve used PhotonStorm’s flixel upgrades a lot in the past.

Thanks for the find!

I’m in too, haha

Okay, so this time I try to use Unity, just for the heck of it. My favorite is mostly blocky 2D games, but it can be an opportunity to push yourself to a bit unfamiliar direction, which is a good thing, right?

Anyway, things to do:

  • Keep TODOs! (as always)
  • Use a notepad, a physical notepad! Because they’re awesome, and saves my screen space too.
  • Have a crazier idea than the last time.

CIMG0274

That is it. I plan to stream the process too. Hope I have a fun time again.

I’m In!

So excited for this!!! only ~9 more days left, better get designing.

Participating in warmup weekend + Marmalade

This will be my first jam that I am openly participating in. I’ll be in the compo category, likely. Previously, I have done a jam with a partner and failed. I also made my first game (which I am not proud of so never showed anyone) in a self-imposed game-jam structure.

I recently started my own solo fps project. I realized though, that my art-style needs a bunch of polishing, and I have no idea how to make the FPS viewpoint feel  both right and immersive. So I decided, as my digital-art  art-style has improved much over focused sessions of drawing via shading. Bringing a similar treatment to the skills involved with crafting not just a game, but an experience is something I hope to do with the upcoming jams.

Aims:

  • Experiment with camera and interface movement
  • Experiment with art-styles and representations
  • Become faster and more effective

Tools:

  • Unity 3D (Free license)
  • GIMP
  • Blender 3D
  • SFXR

First time LD

Greetings to all!

I’m going to join in for the first time on the next dare, and I’m stoked! I’ve done a few other jams, but this will be the first I do solo (so I’m not expecting anything spectacular).

One of the reasons I’m participating is to run two of my own products in a real life scenario. One is a library called Silicalib and is modelled after Flixel but used within XNA. The other is a little gem I’ve been working on called Opaque. For the time being this is nothing but a nice console overlay for your XNA debugging, but in the future I want it to be a real-time editor and scripting engine (using the prototypical Roslyn engine).

I’m looking forward to the nights stresses and pre-release breakdowns of all my systems, but most of all to see what we can make in the 48 hours we have!

Jam away!

Nico.

I’m in there like swimwear

Just a short “I’m in” post that I should have made weeks ago.

This will be my 7th Ludum Dare (and all in a row too!), and I am IN! I was a planning to use Haxe + Openfl + HaxePunk again, but I’ve also been re-learning c++. SDL2 was also just released. There are so many choices, and I’m not exactly sure will I’ll use.

I do know I will use sfxr for sound effects, GraphicsGale for art, and caffeine to keep me going.

Good luck everyone, and may the Source be with you!

Let’s Do This!

All right, looks like I’ll be participating this time around. It’ll be my 3rd Ludum Dare, and my 7th game jam in general.

Here’s what I’ll be using:

Code – C++, via makefiles. For libs, I’ll probably be using zlib, allegro 5, and opengl. Since I’ll be doing the jam, I’m going to use a WIP framework that I’ve been working on recently.

Graphics – GIMP ought to be enough for my purposes.

Sound – BFXR. I’m going to team up with a friend for my musical needs, since I make a terrible composer.

Other Tools – Tiled will be used for building levels, and most of my assets will be packaged via a simple program that I’ve built. cmus and pyradio will provide me with some suitably epic background music whilst working, and I just use chronolapse to make a timelapse of my work.

Why the jam: there are two main reasons why I’m entering the jam. Reason #1 is of course music. If you’re terrible at making it, and you have a friend who’s willing to compose for all of your game jam needs, why not take them up on it? #2 is time. Ludum Dare coincides with my return to college, so I’m gonna have trouble getting too much done on moving day. An extra day to work is quite helpful.

Well, I wish everyone luck!

I’m in, v5.0

Gearing up for my 5th LD in a row… just can’t stay away :-)

I’m a software engineer based in London and enjoy a bit of casual game development in my free time.

For this LD, I’ve switched to libgdx instead of Slick2D since getting an Android phone and becoming interested in mobile. In the run-up to the compo I ported my LD26 entry (“squarespace”) as a learning exercise. The base code and game implementation can be downloaded from the link below, I’ll be using this as a reference. Hoping to make a small game based off this in the warm-up this weekend, and see if I can get Android/HTML5 support working too…

My tool set:

  • Language: Java
  • IDE: IntelliJ IDEA
  • LibrariesKatsu v4 (Personal Library/Base Code for 2D Java Games – based on libgdx)
  • Level Design: Tiled
  • Graphics: Photoshop
  • Sounds/Music: OpenMPT, Audacity, SFXR
  • Other: Coffee (coding); Pizza (survival); Tripel Karmeliet (late night motivation/humorization/removal of creative blocks)

Good luck to all – here’s hoping for a good theme, and looking forward to playing your entries!

I shall join

Second LD, exciting :) I will see if I manage to use MonoGame, otherwise it’s still XNA :/

Since listing all the tools you will use is a trend here, here they be.

MonoGame/XNA as a base for the game

– Parts of my personal library for ease of coding.

Paint.NET for graphics

BFXR/SFXR for sound effects

Coke. Lots.

As again, the theme will be announced at 4 AM in the Saturday morning, which is why my timezone sucks for that. Need sleep. Or I could just be awake until the theme release and then sleep, which may cause me to lose valuable hours.

This time I will be streaming the whole coding, username Spanfile on Twitch.

Thank you, and may the LD be ever in your favor.

First LD Competition

This Is My First Competition No Clue What To Post Only Know GML Language!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just some inspiration guys – Good luck all!

“Ships at a distance have every man’s wish on board. For some they come in with the tide. For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the Watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time. That is the life of men. Now, women forget all those things they don’t want to remember, and remember everything they don’t want to forget. The dream is the truth. Then they act and do things accordingly.”

-Zora Neale Hurston

Judge our games

“These sitters had been tongueless, earless, eyeless conveniences all day long. Mules and other brutes had occupied their skins. But now, the sun and the bossman were gone, so the skins felt powerful and human. They became lords of sounds and lesser things. They passed nations through their mouths. They sat in judgment.”
– Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Ch. 1
