Whales in Space! by geisselvongott

[raw]
made by geisselvongott for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Like this trope, but a bit more generic. I took alot of inspiration from No Mans Sky, and seedship for android in the mood. It is a text based adventure game, the concept is that you are traveling through space and you find a creature floating around that has grown attached with you and is dependent on you for survival. You move from place to place and try to keep it alive. The main mechanic for that is by choosing the correct places to look for food based on the type of creature you rolled.

It is not very balanced, most of the times you will die/loose ~turn 10. But overall I am happy with the progress over the weekend.

I wanted to use this jam to learn PHP so I created this with php/and some basic custom css. The deployment to a azure app service went well, all though I needed to convert all the php files to UTF-8 no BOM in my azure pipeline. It is written with extensive use of _SESSION

That's an very interesting text-based game concept, would love to see it more balanced and developed (Even if enough to not last only 10 turns) to grow more attached to the creature and see how long i can go with him.

Congrats on your submission! It's always great to learn things from a jam. I made it to turn 8 myself, I liked being able to name my whale (though they were already starving at the time so I kind of felt bad doing so!).

We did it, Me and Starvin Marvin traveled through the depths of space, he was hungry for metals the computer said. We passed geometric shapes, Davy Jones locker, some tiny asteroids, and a vast piece of blank dull empty space. until on the 10'th day, we passed a Ship wreckage, i figured Marvin would be exited to have found some metal to chew down on, but he deceased, let go of the ship and drifted away in a life-less state of being.

I return to my cryo-sleep chambers and continue my journey, Marvin's path was decided.

Enjoyed it, some typo's, but a nice read.
