Karl and Timmy by kuro
15+ | BLOOD, VIOLENCE, LANGUAGE
This is a story of two men with dreams. Karl, a financial advisor, and Timmy, a would be gangster.
Left click to advance dialogue, right click to skip it alltogether.

Aim with your mouse, left click to shoot, right click to duck/cover. You don't receive any ranged damage when covering, but your aim is off. You still receive full melee damage. Shooting in the direction of a ranged enemy stresses them out - look for blue dots above their head. If enemy has more than one above it's head, he takes cover, and can not be hit, but doesn't attack you.

I didn't focus on gameplay too much this time. I really wanted to do something more with visuals, story, and sound. Wasted a lot of time on game mechanics anyway, since I didn't realize I could have prepared the code ahead of time. Next time...

I barely managed to link Narrot's generated voice files to his texts in time (finished three minutes before deadline). I will make a post-LD version with all characters having voice files, but that'll be pretty much it. I don't really know what to do with this further.
All forms of criticism, however harsh, if fair, are welcome. Also I'd really welcome any improvement suggestions. If you have any ideas and methods of improvement, please, leave them in the comments.
I hope you enjoy, and thank you for playing.
10.14.19 Update:
I've fixed the dialogue UI scaling, a few grammatical errors, and added voiceovers for all the dialogues in the post-LD version.

Gameplay was pretty sweet for such a small game. I like the mechanics you put in there and the graphics worked well. Not 100% sure about the story :laughing: but at least Mark got something out of it all :wink:
but, nice to get some story for once :dog: normaly ppl ignore that (me included) and just focus on gameplay. so gg on trying something abit different.
Thank you for your time .)
It will be really cool if characters speaking like carrot but with some mixer effects like pitch etc

I've fixed the UI scaling, and added voiceover to all the characters in the post-LD version, check it out if you have time and feel like it .)
@kenster could you describe "respawn me without a gun" with a little bit more detail? thanx .)
Graphics and sounds could be improved a little to enhance the player experience but they dont compromise it. In fact its a very competent work for such a short timeframe. Also, the game is too short. I wanted more.
Narrot -> Best narrator
Excellent job!
The graphics despite their simplicity served the game very well!
The music was very good and the narrator voice was a very nice touch!
But please less text between missions! We are playing a shooter not an adventure game :smile: (and I love those games).
Also how you kill the long range attack guys (the ones with the blue bar (?) that come at you? Shooting them don't reduce the life.. Must you shoot them is a specific location to cause damage?
@paulo-brunassi @ploy Thank you very much .)
@negator2vc You have to wait until the blue dots over their head reduces to one, and then shoot them. It's something Narrot explains before the first gunfight :laughing:
@ddrkirbyisq I actually like the games where story keeps you in a simpler gameplay loop, although I admit this game's gameplay was way too simple, perhaps even to the extent one could argue if it is even a game at all. I write about the reasons (read 'excuses') in a response to derek-volker in this very comment. Thank you very much for your feedback .)
> Well fun game but I wonder if it really fits the COMPO requirement
Meaning what?
I am sorry for pointing this point out :slight_frown: , but I think we got a couple of young game devs here... And maybe you should at least mark the game with blood and _sexual_ sentence content.
@schwede Thank you for pointing this out. I've updated all the description.
The shootout segments ended up being a little easy for me, I think a reload mechanic might have helped?
The game also unfortunately softlocked after the second shootout, at "and so he got the bags of money", but I can't click to progress, only make shooting noises.
The narration was a nice touch, and I loved how you used it to seamlessly give the controls along with telling the story.
Nice work!
