Revenge of the Living Dead by Kurama_Youko

[raw]
made by Kurama_Youko for LD18 (COMPO)
This game was inspired by the "Land of the Dead" movie, where a zombie starts to get smart and command the others against humans.

Objectives & Game Mechanics
Kill all people by turning them into zombies (just touch them) or making the shooters hit them by mistake.
People who became zombies will help you to kill more people (you turn your ENEMIES into your WEAPONS :P). Their normal behavior is AI controlled, but you can give commands to them.

Game Controls
Arrow Keys: Move
Shift: Commands your nearby allies to come close to you
Alt: Commands your nearby allies to go away from you
Ctrl: Commands your nearby allies to move as you wish (control them with the arrow keys)
Z: Commands your nearby allies to disperse
X: Commands your nearby allies to attack the person closest to you

* This game has background music and sound effects. If you're using Java Web Start and any of them seems broken to you, try downloading the game zip file instead. *

The initial level is really huge compared to the speed that you move. Combined with not knowing where the remaining people are, I got a bit stuck.

Great work. The JAM version is waaaay better, the radar arrows are essential. This could be made into a compelling RTS with a bit more detail. Especially if the zombies could have faster movement.

Tks! Yes I was thinking about a RTS version too!! Just put different zombie types, like an Ahmed zombie that explodes... and more human types... and make humans build shelters (so you can destroy them too).

Good use of the theme.
A bit slow though. It gets boring aimlessly shambling around the huge map.

I think it needs more zombies/humans and a faster pace to be fun (even taking into account the jam version.)

Problem with the command keys on my PC: pressing CTRL and ALT at the same time as two arrow keys doesn't always work (it's a keyboard problem, the only solution is to use other keys, AFAIK.)

The java web start version worked fine (Firefox/Linux), with sound and music.

I couldn't find all the people in the level. Also my keyboard get jamming up from having to hold buttons for the commands. Obviously that's not something you can fix, but gamepad support would be nice. Or maybe if you just didn't have to keep holding buttons, instead having a toggle for the different commands?
You know, the background music really did sound like Wolfram Tones. I guess it was ok for what it is but you could have done better I think.
