Abyss by Ryan Schaefer

[raw]
made by Ryan Schaefer for LD22 (COMPO)
The game is a 2D platformer where the player must navigate a dark cave with nothing more than a flashlight.

My original intent was to have the entire cave decorated with grass/plants/rock/etc..., but due to time and an inability to properly light them, these were dropped.

As such, 90% of the "art" is just primitive objects.

Try not to laugh, it's my first LD.

the athmosphere is good, I think the blank gray texture helps a lot. The game lack some respawn point, I give up at my first death because I was already playing for several minutes. Nice game anyway !

Great mood. Unfortunately I got stuck quite soon.
Good first try.

It is unfortunate that I got stuck more than once and I lost interest in starting over again, because the atmosphere is clearly well done and I love these "vocal" sound effects.

Was there a health bar? Maybe I missed it. I liked the atmosphere with the graphics and smoke effects.

Good work! Very atmospheric and fist the theme well. I also got stuck - I would suggest a checkpoint system with a button for 'return to last checkpoint' so people don't have to go back far if they die or just get stuck on the scenery. Congratulations on your first LD48 :D

Very pleasant physic platformer with great graphics and mechanics! I hope you'll get more people to play it, it's great!
