[raw]
made by abstroke for LD23 (JAM)
Hey!

Here's my entry.

Controls:
Arrow Keys to move
Space to jump
C to collect

I'm solo if you don't count lizards!
I was going for the compo but i didn't know base as to be shared before start. No Problem here i come to the jam!

I'n Lord DeadRock adventures you are Lord Deadrock, a proud british explorator lost in the jungle
// If the cutscene would be implemented you would see him and his hand Lance flying in a baloon over the jungle until a parrot sudenly pierse it badly (yeah). DeadRock has fall alone in the jungle... //

The goal of the game is to catch the maximum species you can in each levels (if there was more than one :)) and make your way into the jungle.

Enjoy!

Sorry for nosound stupid conversion problem inextremis..
Same for UI navigation i got it but not in time.

Need to drag your file to the Public folder and right-click -> Dropbox -> Get Public Link from there. Looks pretty cool though.

Nice little game - what really strikes me is the pixel art. Really great, dude! Definitely needs music and sounds!

Flesh it out! I'd play this, and I bet lots of other would, outside of the context of the compo.

Very nice graphics - somewhat akward gameplay, but cool!

Love the background - looks beautiful! It's still a bit buggy (I got stuck somewhere I couldn't get out of), but I really like the idea.

Nicely done concept. One thing that seemed a little strange was the large difference in resolution between the environment/ background sprites and the character and animals. Even with the discrepancy in resolutions, looks great!

After you dive into the water, you get stuck. The game itself is both funny and daring.

Hmm, I couldn't seem to get past the first level. I get this book and then..where do I go?

There is something nice about the art style. Except the font which doesn't sit at all with the graphics.

The movement is a bit glitchy and I seemed to get stuck a lot.
Also I am not a big fan of having action keys when you're already touching whatever you want interact with.

I think sound could've done a lot here. Some jungle ambience etc.

Thanks for all the feedback here, be sure i note this for a future release.
I' agree for the glitchy movement it comes from the collision map behind, i got to soften it a bit and yeah you don't want to swim too, and liana will sometime make you stuck in a tree :). platforming behaviors like jump fall swim climb or duck needs either some tweaks or a new ways to handle them, it's my first platformer so i need to dive in to find some reliable behaviors.
Animation is quite awfull too in my opinion that may contribute to the glitchy feeling.
I'm glad you like the art style,it needs some tweak too as you said resolution discrepancy , the font i kind of like it but yeah there's something weird about it's too much monkey island :)
I know the sound was a pifall as people said and i fell right in! One of the numerous first timer mistakes i did.
Thanks again, keep it going ;)
Max.

I really enjoyed the low resolution backgrounds; I found them very expressive, and they established a nice sense of place. I found myself wishing for actors that would provoke the same sense of mystery that the background did. I found the movement hilarious.

Along with the details that were already mentioned, you can keep in mind the contrast (how the background is almost as brighter as the ground/platforms), which is why text is also difficult to read (besides what you've been told already :P). But I still wanted to keep playing which is THE most important feature on a videogame! And you got that. Also, LOVED how many animations the character has. Swimming, falling, looking up...

Also, If I can make a suggestion: I don't know if this was on purpose or not, but I liked that when you pressed down, the character kind of "climbed down" wherever platform he was in. On the tree, doing that felt good, even when I got stuck.

I like the concept but I eventually got stuck in the wall. Pleasant visuals!

The art style is cool. Love that you have a map. But the game is just too buggy. I would play this game more if it wasn't so buggy.

Digging the pixel theme and adventure concept. There's a lot of potential to work from here. A little hard to control, my character kept getting stuck in places.

Really enjoyed the graphics. I think the controls and collisions could be improved a bit, I got stuck in weird places and stuff. But it was a lot of fun.
