Gregor the Grogre by Glamdring

[raw]
made by Glamdring for LD24 (JAM)
I started with the intention of entering the compo, but I didn't finish in time. There are still some bugs, and I didn't get to implement a lot of things I had planned. On the other hand, my dev art is probably the most amazing thing in the universe. So there's that.

Issues:
- You can't die, so don't worry about that (bonus feature! ship it!)
- You can, however, reach the end of the (small) universe and get stuck. Avoid this by advancing slanty-wise instead of straight forward, or occasionally running away.
- Once you evolve to the Adult size and evolve traits 3 times, you can't apply more (but you'll still see the evolve screen a couple more times)
- One of the later monsters will pretty much always kill you. Good thing you can't die!
- Sounds never did make it in. :(
- and many more

Tools: Unity, Orthello 2D, Photoshop CS5, Wacom tablet. Of the 4, I had never used any but photoshop. I learned a lot this weekend.

I found some keys, some boxes, some chests. I fought some slimes and chilled a bit. Not too sure on the goal here. Good effort, though.

Regardless of the things you stated you couldn't finish, I still think this was pretty cool :)
I love how evolution choices stack on top of each other. Nice idea!

Wow, cute little role playing game. Simple, but kinda fun really. Certainly more fun than "questing" on zombie jombie! I wish there was more of a story to keep me wanting to move forward in the game.

That was oddly fun. Choosing different paths didn't seem to make any difference, and getting items didn't seem to do much either... but I still found this game strangely fun. With some more gameplay work this could be pretty good. Your dev art was pretty cute for being dev art ;)

I found interesting the idea of taking different directions and evolve with your character accordingly. When found some things, such as the chest, I had the feeling of having gained or lost anything, except for my life that sometimes growing and sometimes decreased.

Enjoyed the level up system. I didn't really always understand what I was evolving on my character, but I had fun neverless.

Love the different upgrades and your adorable dev art! My favorite character is the spiky-looking rodent enemy.

Halfway through, I realized you could pick the "You've encountered..." box and place it elsewhere on the screen. I put it in enemies' mouths and atop Gregor's beefy evolved arms, among other places. :P

Also, I'm glad Gregor can't die, or I never would have defeated any of the dragons. D:

Can you build this natively? WINE can't help me run Unity in a browser.

Pretty impressed by the impressive number of mutations you threw in in such a short time!
