Metroidvania [INCOMPLETE], "Fleeting Nights" by machippie

[raw]
made by machippie for LD27 (JAM)
While intended to be a metroidvania-style side-scroller, time proved to be too short to achieve what we wanted.

Originally, the plan was to have a survival game, where the enemies became more vicious at night time (and the day-night cycle was the manifestation of the "10 second" theme). Sadly core pieces of the gameplay, like having the dog enemies ACTUALLY TAKE DAMAGE, didn't quite make it into the game in time, and our musicians on the team didn't finish the sounds / music either.

Although the game is clearly far from finished, the experience was still very valuable. Some of the scripts written to create this (e.g. the Animation manager and Platforming control scripts) have some promise to be used in further collaborations as well. It was a lot of fun to learn about how to write state machines that handle player movement and animations.

Lastly, a big shoutout to Pix3m for his wonderful pixel artwork (which is, by far, the most polished part of this endeavor). Definitely check out his other works at

Arrow keys to move, z and x for sword and knife attacks!

Very nice style. I think you could do a lot with this if you kept at it.

Don't name the archive after the OS you're distributing it to!
Beautiful pixel art and lightening, but the game is missing it's core mechanic..
