Polysseum - LD Edition by Skiddings

[raw]
made by Skiddings for LD32 (JAM)
Enter the Polysseum and fight!

Armed only with a swapper gun you must survive the trails of the Polysseum.

Cubes, Discs, Sentries, Boids and Cylinders will fly at you from all sides! Horrible monsters will hunt you down!

Swap places with the monsters at just the right time to get them caught in the traps made for you. Kill all the monsters to progress!

There are 5 waves.

Controls:
WASD - move
Mouse - look
Left click - swap places with a monster
Space - jump
Left Shift - sprint
Double tap WASD - dodge
F - turn on/off flash light
L - turn lights on/off (if you want to play on hard mode ;) )

Escape or P to pause

Are you not entertained?!

I've not had much chance to play test this, so it's probably horrible unbalanced and might be unwinnable, especially since it seems the health pickups are not spawning in!

Confession:
This is pretty much a new gamemode for a game I've been working on and off for a little while now.
All the physics stuff and basic movement I developed before the Jam.
All the level management, monster AI, monster Animations, outline shaders, teleporter and effects I did for the Jam.

Almost all assets are either primitives or free online. I'll produce a full credits later.
Programming and design by Skiddings.

Note about submission time: I had to upload a broken build originally because unity decided to fail to build (script folder permissions) and crashed losing some unsaved work just before the submission deadline. My own fault I know. I've updated the build post LD to allow it to be played, fixed some scaling issues and returned the level to the state it was before it crashed. >_<

Known Issues:
Health pickups don't spawn! -fixed (I would count this as a game breaking bug)
Menu on death has a resume button.
Camera shake is flakey.
Monsters don't always play a sound on death.
Trolls are really really hard to kill.
The columns don't seem to hurt the monsters.
The web player version is really broken - Finally fixed all the shader issues!

Ugh Generally when I see a web link I think it is self hosted on a web site, not a downloadable file that must be opened.

Sorry! I genuinely missed that!
I guess I shouldn't upload in such a rush.
I'll try to fix the actual webplayer version soon, the shaders are broken at the moment.

Wow! First of all: Good job. :D I died a few times and wondered how to shoot those enemies until I finally realized the game mechanic. (I should have read the description first ;) ). Good concept and tough gameplay. Nice!

Couldn't get to play it, neither online nor on the downloadable file. A shame, since it looks visually interesting on those screens, specially considering the small time frame.

For people struggling to play could you let me know in more details what the problem was?
What browser you're using, your approximate computer power, the exact nature of the problem (freezes or not loading at all).

Interesting mechanic. I found it difficult to actually pull off a kill though, the timing of it is quite tricky. Those levitating cubes-o-death are pretty brutal. I'd have liked a mouse invert option. Neat game overall!

Was fun to run around and switch places, but I didn't really understand the purpose of the game. Sounds and animations were nice, and the AI movements of some blocks were pretty interesting.

It's good idea and a solid implementation in a short amount of time, regardless of what was ready before the jam started.

Small bug found: Multiplier acts crazy after clicking the restart button to start a new game. I've seen 25x.

The game was rather buggy in the web player. Worst of all, the size of the game in the window was slightly larger than my computer's native resolution (2560x1600 @2x). I liked the game concept when it was working.
