While I'm sitting LD59 out, I'll be back for LD's grand finale.
Having read @pov's annoucement and @sheepolution's response, I can't help but get conflicted about this. LD is one of the two most prominent game jams in the world, the other being the Global Game Jam. So to see it go is bittersweet at best and heartbreaking at worst.
As a fervent jammer since 2014, I've seen the changing tides of game jams in general. From the time where I got excited making a game in a brick-and-mortar site, to the time where the pandemic forced everyone to go online to continue, no one can doubt that everyone had their own highs and lows churning out their own masterpieces.
My time with LD is nothing but great memories, even though I had to stomach inconveniences big and small. From the first LD game (e|merge, LD30) to the latest (Lily Adventuresses! Episode 3: The Explorer Sisters and the Deepest Depths [Prologue], LD57), each LD I participated in marks a small but important step to becoming a better solo developer, where I can show my capabilities in creating awesome games with awesome stories.
But then, anything can happen in the years before the planned grand finale of LD, so I'm gonna stick to my guns as I will still continue participating in game jams in general, even as I continue to rack up award nominations for the games I've completed so far (there are four, currently; and all come from Philippine game development groups). And yes, I'll definitely create something special for the final season, which will sum up my time with LD.
