Some thoughts about the fear of giving ratings.
Good day to all of you, fellow ludumdearers!
The time for ratings is coming to en end. And as i play more and more games, i see that a lot of good games are still buried in the depth of less then 20 score, or just starting to gain score. And i would like to talk about it with you.
This is not my first game jam in general, but first on Ludun Dare. And i see that some partisipants are afraid to give comments or to give ratings to the game they played. There were even a few posts before, on placing grades.
So i would like to give a bit of personal advise on how to feel more comfortable with placing grades, maybe it will help someone: 1. Make word or exel file, which is best for you, and keep your personal record. This will help you find your favorite game after so many games played. 2. Don`t be afraid to leave a comment. Sometimes it can be hard to say what you didn't like. Or you see that a lot of commentators already spoke about it, so you can feel that to say it again is somehow rude. But it is fine. We all learn and are trying to become better in our craft. If it is still hard for you, then at least say what you liked or compliment the overall work that was done. 3. When giving grades, try not to put tons of pressure on yourself. Yes, we all want to be fair, we all want to weigh all good and bad sides of the game and to give the correct grade. But the more games you play, the harder it gets. So try to be easy on yourself. If something in the game makes you smile, then listen to your hart.
Well, that will be all for today. I wish you all to have great time, to have fun and to welcome upcoming weekends.
And don't be a stranger, drop your links in the comments, i will be glad to play your games.
