{"author_name":"AgentParsec","cat":"LD #37","comments":[],"epoch":1482351060,"likes":2,"metadata":{"p_key":"856","p_author":"AgentParsec","p_authorkey":"12468","p_urlkey":"35703","p_title":"\u201cFurni-Chore\u201d post-compo analysis","p_cat":"LD #37","p_event":"LD37","p_time":"1482351060","p_likes":"2","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"12468","us_name":"AgentParsec","us_username":"\/author\/agentparsec\/","event_start":"1481241600","event_key":"81","event_name":"Ludum Dare 37"},"text":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-37\/?action=preview&amp;uid=12468\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-595049\"><img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-595049\" src=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/furnichore_ss3-550x309.png\" alt=\"furnichore_ss3\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/furnichore_ss3-300x169.png 300w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/furnichore_ss3-768x432.png 768w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/furnichore_ss3-550x309.png 550w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/furnichore_ss3.png 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n <p><strong>THINGS THAT I LIKED:<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>I managed to get all of the furniture placement rules to work properly, along with showing the player all the valid placement points.\u00a0 It even removes invalid furniture whenever you pick up something that it requires.\u00a0 While making this, I was so worried that I wouldn&#8217;t get it all to come out right, but it did in the end.<\/li>\n <li>This is probably some of the most mellow music I&#8217;ve written, and I really enjoyed listening to it while playing the game.\u00a0 I hope others do as well.<\/li>\n <li>I made all of the sound effects myself through the microphone plus some sound editing, which I&#8217;ve done in the past.\u00a0 I think I will continue to do this, since I&#8217;m starting to get pretty good at it.<\/li>\n <li>I made a level editor to help speed the process.\u00a0 Without it, it would have taken me much longer to make all the levels, and I wouldn&#8217;t have had time to make the 15 that I had.<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p><strong>THINGS THAT I DIDN&#8217;T LIKE:<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>The aforementioned level editor is very rudimentary, and always saves to the same filename (which has to be manually changed in order to be inserted into the game).\u00a0 If I had more time, I would have made it more user-friendly and included it as part of the actual game.\u00a0 I think including a level editor would have helped push the game up to the top.<\/li>\n <li>It&#8217;s in the code to allow furniture that is pre-placed and can&#8217;t be moved, which could allow for interesting puzzles.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t have time to actually make any puzzles using the mechanic though; I was lucky enough to get the current 15 levels done in time for the compo to end.<\/li>\n <li>I\u00a0keep feeling like I made level 14\u00a0too hard.\u00a0 People have beaten it though, so maybe I&#8217;m just being paranoid.<\/li>\n <li>The way to tell the attributes of furniture is to hover over it or check on the slight color tint.\u00a0 I think having actual different graphics would probably be preferable, but I didn&#8217;t have time for that.\u00a0 It worked out, but it does add to the confusion.<\/li>\n <li>I really wanted the sofas and chairs to auto-rotate to face properly, but I just didn&#8217;t have the time to implement it.<\/li>\n <li>I also had a TV planned that had to be against a wall facing a sofa, but I cut it out after I realized that checking facing was going to be very difficult to accomplish with the way I had everything set up.<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p><strong>THINGS FOR THE FUTURE?:<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>This could make for a good completed game, maybe for mobile devices.\u00a0 It just needs a facelift and a slew of additional puzzles and furniture types,\u00a0and also some more furniture attributes.\u00a0 I would definitely want to have the aforementioned TV put in.<\/li>\n <li>Someone suggested to me that it might be possible to have levels procedurally generated.\u00a0 I agree that it&#8217;s possible, and I might look into it if I decide to take this anywhere.<\/li>\n <li>If I continue with this, finishing up the level editor is a must.\u00a0 I&#8217;d really like people to be able to make their own puzzles and share them.<\/li>\n <\/ul>","time":"December 21st, 2016 3:11 pm","title":"\u201cFurni-Chore\u201d post-compo analysis"}
