Look at all those games!<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Hey folks! So, this time I\u2019ve only rated 82 games. Shame on my, I know \u2013 I\u2019m busy with my Master\u2019s Thesis, but apart from that, I really have no excuses. I didn\u2019t think I\u2019d actually get around to do a Best Of list this time, but since those games are just so incredibly great I\u2019ve done one anyway now!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">So here\u2019s a list of the best and\/or most interesting games I\u2019ve played \u2013 and so should you, in my opinion! But hey, I know it\u2019s only three days left, so just pick the cherries. (Hint: They are all cherries.)<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Excellence in EVERYTHING<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"\/data\/posts\/2014\/05\/f504a392bbfa668cf98aa146bbb2cba2.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=4433\" target=\"_blank\">Dig Hard by petey123567<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nHave you ever wanted to save the PRESIDENT from EARTH\u2019S EVIL CORE and the UNDERGROUND DINOSAURS wielding BADASS WEAPONS? Sure you have! And even if not, this game will teach you why you SHOULD want that. It\u2019s just so much fun even if when you inevitably die in mere seconds \u2013 and it feels more juicy than any fruit you\u2019ll ever come across!<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/33058.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=33058\" target=\"_blank\">Planet Corp. by Maschinen-Mensch<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nPlanet Corp is pretty short compared to the other games in this category, but what it does, it does really well. You are drilling different planets in our solar system for resources in a totally safe way (that involves throwing freakin\u2019 drilling bombs down on them). But hey, the TV says it\u2019s fine! Which it will in fact do ingame. The cutscenes are hilarious.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/25829.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=25829\" target=\"_blank\">The Valley Rule by Raiyumi<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nI sincerely believe that the two creators of this game didn\u2019t get ANY sleep, because there is no way they could\u2019ve finished The Valley Rule otherwise. This game isn\u2019t just the very definition of polish, it\u2019s also incredibly big and a lot of fun! What this game lacks in innovation, it makes up in sheer production values. (And I still want the OST for it. Please.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/14848.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=14848\" target=\"_blank\">Behind Mirror by SaintHeiser<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nSo, your friend just got his reflection stolen, and you want to catch the thief who is underwater. You can\u2019t though, because your reflection is blocking you! So now your goal is to become a vampire, because well, vampires don\u2019t have reflections, right? Combine this premise with lovely vector-art-pixel-graphics (is that a thing now?), cool music and the hardest jumps in this LD edition and you get Behind Mirror.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/22452.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=22452\" target=\"_blank\">Rosa Neurosa by Wertle<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nIn the words of the game\u2019s creators, Rosa Neurosa is a \u201cdigging\/mad libs\/improv game.\u201d I can\u2019t find words for how awesome it is that they actually managed to pull of a <strong>digital single player improv game<\/strong> that is fun and works well, haha. Awesome graphics, great music and the option to actually share the story that you write seals the deal for me. (Try it! Post your endings here, please!)<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Excellence in humor<\/h3>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/35058.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=35058\" target=\"_blank\">NOPE by shadow64<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nI- I really, don\u2019t know what to say about this game without spoiling anything. It\u2019s Monty Python-esque. It\u2019s short. It\u2019s extremely funny. I promise you\u2019ll like it!<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/15833.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=15833\" target=\"_blank\">Inside Look Activity Book by rylgh<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nThe same thing applies to the Inside Look Activity Book, actually! The humor might be a biiiit more twisted and dark, but hey, it\u2019s a book for children, right? What could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Excellence in storytelling\/atmosphere<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/4598.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=4598\" target=\"_blank\">The Stanley Enigma by nddrylliog<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nAh, the Stanley Enigma. You had a pretty bad dream about your friend Stanley dying, but dreams don\u2019t come true, right? And I mean, who\u2019d hurt Stanley anyway? Hum. Who indeed. You better check. Maybe you\u2019ll find out in the ever branching storylines of The Stanley Enigma, a brilliant dialogue game with (as one commenter rightly remarks) Kentucky Road Zero vibes and over 1000 lines of text.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/36138.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=36138\" target=\"_blank\">The Westport Independent by Double Zero One Zero<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nThis game has a \u201cPapers, Please?\u201d vibe to me, and that\u2019s definitely a good thing. Less good is that you\u2019re running a newspaper which is due to be closed by an censoring antagonistic government. You\u2019ve still got a few weeks left though \u2013 so what exactly will you print?<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/5959.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=5959\" target=\"_blank\">In Hiding by Sheepolution<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nSssh. Everything will be alright. If you don\u2019t get found, that is. Slightly scary, pretty atmospheric and the coolest effect for ingame soundeffects that I\u2019ve ever seen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/12722.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=12722\" target=\"_blank\">Seven Souls by BrothersT<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nThis is one of those games that I really want to be finished. Seven Souls is a storytelling game where you play a very nice creature which only wants to play with those other characters. Preferably in the water. No ulterior motives, I promise! A clean art style and great writing make this top list material, even if unfinished. (Also I <strong>love<\/strong> the accent of the creature.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Excellence in audio<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/29237.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=29237\" target=\"_blank\">Orlok\u2019s Ordeal by Davelope<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nThe gameplay is fun on its own, but DAMN! This opening! Awesome voice acting combined with expressive story book pictures and dramatic music, this is just perfect. (Oh, and I love those paintings ingame. And the ending, haha.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/7285.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=7285\" target=\"_blank\">Ripple Runner by DDRKirby(ISQ)<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nA one (sorry, two. Eh, I mean three?) button runner with an innovative mechanic, game boy aesthetics and the <a href=\"http:\/\/ddrkirbyisq.bandcamp.com\/album\/ripple-runner-original-soundtrack\" target=\"_blank\">BEST SOUNDTRACK<\/a>. And the game is synchronized to it! This is just an absolutely joy to play. (And in fact, I\u2019m listening to the soundtrack while I\u2019m writing this list.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/25923.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=25923\" target=\"_blank\">Space to go by geekdrums <\/a><\/b><br\/>\n\u201cSpace to go\u201d is probably the only LD game that has the complete tutorial\/instructions in its title. It is storytelling synchronized to music and I can\u2019t even describe why, but \u2013 synchronizing the words to sounds gives this whole thing an unexpectedly awesome and quite humorous feeling. It\u2019s pretty short too, so there\u2019s really no reason why you shouldn\u2019t give it a try!<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Excellence in being really, really different<\/h3>\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"\/data\/posts\/2014\/05\/18e9742b1e73df67667ad5e795ca292e.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=37162\" target=\"_blank\">Underworld Evolution by StudioWolfox<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nUnderworld Evolution calls itself an \u201cepic RTSE (Real Time Strategic Evolution) game\u201d and it really delivers on this promise. You\u2019re taking control of a bunch of pretty incompetent minions which you\u2019ll slowly but surely improve \u2013 generation by generation! (Hum, maybe you shouldn\u2019t actually play it, it\u2019s super addictive! Don\u2019t tell anybody, but I\u2019ve spent over an hour on it and only stopped because I wanted to rate more games\u2026)<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/15853.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=15853\" target=\"_blank\">Mini Metro Subway Tycoon by ripatti<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nA subway simulator in retro Sim City style \u2013 pretty cool. It\u2019s a bit hard at first (I recommend watching the <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/sdaRxW7LhJo\" target=\"_blank\">How To Play video<\/a>), but soon you\u2019ll be building subways like it\u2019s nobody\u2019s business!<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/13938.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=13938\" target=\"_blank\">You Don\u2019t Want That by Dark Arts and Sciences<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nA creepypasta Ludum Dare game about making a Ludum Dare game? Sold! This is the most obscure LD game I\u2019ve ever come across and it\u2019s also pretty hard, but I definitely felt entertained. And I just love the idea. Don\u2019t skip this game. It might get angry. And, uh, you don\u2019t want that.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/10217.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=10217\" target=\"_blank\">Generic Adventure Game by Jezzamon<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nAs the title of the game suggests, this one is just a generic adventure game. Yup. Definitely nothing interesting here under the generic surface. (It might be pretty funny though. And have a cool concept.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p><img class=\"alignleft size-full\" height=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/7971.png\" width=\"120\"\/><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-29\/?action=preview&amp;uid=7971\" target=\"_blank\">Please Come Back by PapyGaragos<\/a><\/b><br\/>\nThis game has the greatest play-controls-avatar relationship I\u2019ve ever encountered with a mouse. If yours has a scrollwheel, try it \u2013 you won\u2019t be disappointed. You might get exhausted though, and the distress is pretty real too after a while. The only thing that I don\u2019t like about this game is that it\u2019s based on a pretty similar game, but I still think you shouldn\u2019t skip this experience \u2013 and it\u2019s pretty cool that it still works with such a simple art style.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: left\">\n<p>\u00a0<br\/>\n\u00a0<br\/>\nDid you like my recommendations? If so, maybe you could rate and comment on my game too. I\u2019d be really happy about that!
