{"author_name":"TimBeaudet","cat":"October Challenge 2010","comments":[],"epoch":1286038320,"likes":0,"metadata":{"p_key":"69170","p_author":"TimBeaudet","p_authorkey":"1888","p_urlkey":"104973","p_title":"BlackBird\u2019s Splash Screen!","p_cat":"October Challenge 2010","p_event":"LD18","p_time":"1286038320","p_likes":"0","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"1888","us_name":"TimBeaudet","us_username":"timbeaudet","event_start":"1282262400","event_key":"4","event_name":"LD18"},"text":"<p>Well I\u2019ve decided to make my own engine\/framework, choosing DirectX for  visuals and DirectSound for audio.\u00a0 I understand this limits the current  implementation of the framework to Windows only.\u00a0 I take this path  because of future plans in 2011 with this framework.\u00a0 Beside, if I do  find the need to port my \u201cOctNovDec\u201d project to other platforms, the  framework does encapsulate all details; FileIO, Input, Audio, Visual, and\u00a0 Timing.<\/p>\n <p>So after getting my framework up and running on an extremely basic level, with a lot of fun whoop-de-doos, I have a splash screen.\u00a0 Something I said I could do in &#8220;10 minutes&#8221; ended up taking &#8220;40 minutes&#8221; because I also made a simple sprite class.\u00a0 My time estimations seem to lack truth&#8230;\u00a0 Here is the splash screen, at least in concept.<\/p>\n <div id=\"attachment_27979\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img class=\"size-large wp-image-27979\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/splash1-550x427.png\" alt=\"BlackBird's Splash Screen\" width=\"550\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/splash1-300x233.png 300w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/splash1-550x427.png 550w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/splash1.png 1032w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A bit simple, but my best piece of art.<\/p><\/div>\n <p>With that I do need to change my logo.\u00a0 \u201cPresents\u201d must be removed or  replaced;\u00a0 I\u2019ve thought of Studios, but it is just me.\u00a0 I\u2019ve thought of  Games but that could be limiting \u2013 even if it is what I am focused on  at these times.\u00a0 I could leave it just BlackBird, but I\u2019m not sure.\u00a0 In  any case, when I have a Main Menu, this will fade nicely into it.\u00a0 So,  this is what I achieved as of last night, October 1st.<\/p>\n <p>Today I\u2019ve got some simple sprite based font system working, a  finite-state machine for different Game States, and now progressing to  work on the editor.\u00a0 May come back to edit.\u00a0 Yay for my first actual post!<\/p>","time":"October 2nd, 2010 11:52 am","title":"BlackBird\u2019s Splash Screen!"}
