{"author_name":"deltamikealpha","cat":"October Challenge 2010","comments":[],"epoch":1286804280,"likes":1,"metadata":{"p_key":"69132","p_author":"deltamikealpha","p_authorkey":"510157","p_urlkey":"104935","p_title":"Ludum Racer Art coming together","p_cat":"October Challenge 2010","p_event":"LD18","p_time":"1286804280","p_likes":"1","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"510157","us_name":"deltamikealpha","us_username":"deltamikealpha","event_start":"1282262400","event_key":"4","event_name":"LD18"},"text":"<p>The art style we&#8217;ve chosen to utilise within our Ludum Racer has been derived from our upcoming iPad title: <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/dxJTLE\">Dead West<\/a>.<\/p>\n <p>It&#8217;s a limited yet fantastic looking colour pallete, designed to make  full use of the amazing high contrast that suits the iPhone and iPad  particularly well.<\/p>\n <p>Below are several screenshots that show a styling screenshot from  Dead West, through converting it to a &#8216;track&#8217; to showing where lighting  effects etc are, and finally to a finished product including a horse and  trap contraption that will be used in the final finished product.<\/p>\n <p><span><span><img src=\"http:\/\/www.36peas.com\/storage\/post-images\/3a.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1286474134991\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <p><span><span><img src=\"http:\/\/www.36peas.com\/storage\/post-images\/3b.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1286474166948\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <p>The drawn on notes indicate different obstacles etc to add a bit of variety and shape to the finished track.<\/p>\n <p><span><span><img src=\"http:\/\/www.36peas.com\/storage\/post-images\/3c.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1286474271936\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <p><span><span><img src=\"http:\/\/www.36peas.com\/storage\/post-images\/3d.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1286474342087\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <p>To stop things looking too bland, some lighting paths were sketched  on, darker parts showing shadow and lighter parts indicating, well,  light. This further enhances the route of the track.<\/p>\n <p><span><span><img src=\"http:\/\/www.36peas.com\/storage\/post-images\/3e.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1286474534474\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <p><span><span><img src=\"http:\/\/www.36peas.com\/storage\/post-images\/3f.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1286535644032\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <p>Finally, with some edges defining the sides properly and some nice  lighting, we&#8217;re left with something that looks much more like a track.<\/p>\n <p>Our game design is moving on, and we now have a working prototype with some fancy tracks, but still much, much more to do.<\/p>\n <p>So this was part way through the first conceptual idea, the green  markings are bits that&#8217;ll probably change and evolve as seen fit<\/p>\n <p><span><span><img src=\"http:\/\/www.36peas.com\/storage\/post-images\/level1-firstdraft-withcolumns.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1286012807512\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <p>And this is where the thing is up to currently.<\/p>\n <p><span><span><img style=\"width: 320px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.36peas.com\/storage\/level1-alpha2.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1286012762173\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <p>Obviously this is still very early stages, but progress is fast (And needs to be!)<\/p>\n <p>More updates as and when.<\/p>\n <p><em>We\u2019ll be regularly blogging here and on our parent site under \u2018<a id=\"moduleLink8117706\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/bgz61k\"><span>Ludum Racer (challenge blog)<\/span><\/a>\u2018<br \/>\n Further to this, both myself <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/cOYVJ7\">@deltamikealpha<\/a> and Gareth <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/bE6mkM\">@36peas<\/a> will be tweeting about the project as it evolves.<\/em><\/p>","time":"October 11th, 2010 8:38 am","title":"Ludum Racer Art coming together"}
