Take This!","p_event":"LD20","p_time":"1304274420","p_likes":"1","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"3827","us_name":"fueelin","us_username":"\/author\/fueelin\/","event_start":"1304035200","event_key":"6","event_name":"LD20"},"text":"<p>Hey everybody,<\/p>\n <p>I&#8217;ve never done this before and I&#8217;ve been so focused on putting my time into the game that I haven&#8217;t posted anything about it here.\u00a0 Sure the competition is almost done, but I still have time for a little preview for you guys <img src=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/simple-smile.png\" alt=\":)\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/> First a screenshot of what the basic game screen looks like at the start of a level:<\/p>\n <div id=\"attachment_50325\" style=\"width: 296px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-50325\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/2011\/05\/01\/almost-done-so-heres-a-preview\/timbeckld20preview\/\"><img class=\"size-medium wp-image-50325\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/TimBeckLD20Preview-286x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/TimBeckLD20Preview-286x300.png 286w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/TimBeckLD20Preview.png 512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 286px) 100vw, 286px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">&quot;It is Dangerous to go Alone in the Dark&quot;<\/p><\/div>\n <p>Yup, that&#8217;s what it looks like.\u00a0 Nope, you don&#8217;t play as a sentient ball of light.\u00a0 I had a couple ideas to start with.\u00a0 For a while, I was thinking of doing a sort of story-based game about going away by yourself to college or moving to a new city or whatever, but then I realized I wanted something with a little more gameplay.\u00a0 The first thing that popped into my head was that exploring a dark cave by yourself was pretty dangerous.\u00a0 I wanted to do something interesting with that though, so I decided that I should emphasize sound instead of visuals.\u00a0 Therefore, the &#8216;this&#8217; you take is a sonar monster detector.\u00a0 The closer you are to an enemy, the faster it beeps.\u00a0 Using this as well as a limited number of flares per level that you can place where you think enemies are, you must make your way through a series of caves with randomly placed, ever-increasing amounts of monsters.<\/p>\n <p>Basically, think of it as minesweeper where you control an actual character instead of a mouse cursor, and where sound is your primary form of information on where the &#8216;mines&#8217; are.<\/p>\n <p>At this point, all the gameplay stuff is done.\u00a0 I suppose I should give it another test runthrough or two, but we&#8217;ll see if I have time.\u00a0 At this point, I&#8217;m just working on polish and adding assets.\u00a0 More animations, sound, music, and plot-type-stuff.<\/p>\n <p>This has certainly been an eye opening experience (I guess that&#8217;s kind of a pun, you&#8217;ll see what I mean when you play) and I&#8217;ve learned a lot from it.\u00a0 It will also be the first game I&#8217;ve actually fully finished and released to the public, so that&#8217;s awesome!\u00a0 Anyway, I hope you guys like it\/at least think the idea is interesting.\u00a0 Sorry for not posting more as I went about the process!<\/p>\n <p>-Tim &#8216;fueelin&#8217; Beck<\/p>","time":"May 1st, 2011 1:27 pm","title":"Almost Done so Here\u2019s a Preview"}
