Take This!","p_event":"LD20","p_time":"1304291280","p_likes":"0","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"3178","us_name":"mtthwcmpbll","us_username":"mtthwcmpbll","event_start":"1304035200","event_key":"6","event_name":"LD20"},"text":"<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-50933\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/2011\/05\/01\/calling-it-quits-and-an-analysis-of-the-unfinished-product\/ld20finalsubmissionscreenshot\/\"><img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-50933\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/LD20FinalSubmissionScreenshot-550x411.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/LD20FinalSubmissionScreenshot-300x224.png 300w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/LD20FinalSubmissionScreenshot-550x411.png 550w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/LD20FinalSubmissionScreenshot.png 593w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n <p><a href=\"http:\/\/snowfortstudio.com\/share\/ludumdares\/LD20\/final_submission.html\">Play the untitled, unfinished LD20 entry.<\/a><\/p>\n <p>I&#8217;m done. \u00a0Its not finished, but I&#8217;m done. \u00a0With a little over an hour left, I&#8217;m missing:<\/p>\n <ol>\n <li>any sort of complex pathfinding for the adventurer (read: she runs in a straight line from left to right, not jumping, no anything else).<\/li>\n <li>any hazards other than the arrows falling from the sky<\/li>\n <li>any items with behavior that interacts with the missing hazards (only the shield is in there with any behavior, which simply nullifies the arrow damage).<\/li>\n <li>any sound effects or music<\/li>\n <li>any animation other than what can be done with particle effects<\/li>\n <li>any artwork other than the placeholder concept sketches and primitives-based models<\/li>\n <li>any end goal for the level run (the player will stop in front of a beautiful white cube<\/li>\n <\/ol>\n <p>In retrospect, my biggest hindrance is in the art department (as is the case for many folks, I would guess). \u00a0I&#8217;m fairly comfortable artistically, but I&#8217;m out of practice with anything but a pen and paper and easily distracted all over the place. \u00a0I spent way to much time tweaking particle effects for lava ash and god-rays for item delivery and not enough time producing quality assets or features. \u00a0I&#8217;m unfamiliar with sprite animation in Unity that doesn&#8217;t rely on the commercial SpriteManager 2 framework (which I can&#8217;t submit the source for so it&#8217;s out for any Ludum Dares). \u00a0I&#8217;m unfamiliar with anything but the most basic box-modeling in 3d modeling software (which I used extensively to model my arrows, which you can&#8217;t barely see anything of and was another waste of time). \u00a0I&#8217;m also fairly useless at audio output of any sort, so I was planning on pumping out something easy in WolframTones but didn&#8217;t have any time to figure out how to get the midi file playing.<\/p>\n <p>All said, I had a blast. \u00a0I was up way too late last night trying to get things put together and I learned a lot of little things here and there. \u00a0I think I need to brush up on some of my artistic output before the next Dare so that I&#8217;m prepared for another ridiculous theme.<\/p>","time":"May 1st, 2011 6:08 pm","title":"Calling It Quits (and an Analysis of the Unfinished Product)"}
