MiniLD #68 – Work in Progress
Ninja Man vs The Green Sticks of Doom IV (Save the Battery Hens) will be a homage to the games I thought of making, tried to make, and did make during my childhood. With a nod to some of the game I enjoyed playing as well.
Below is a work in progress screenshot. I don’t have a lot of time so I’ll see how far I get but I’ll finish a couple of screens at least.

The games:
Save the Battery Hens: Although I only ever played the demo and read the reviews I was deeply infatuated with Creatures on the Commodore 64. Save the Battery Hens was going to be my take on the torture screens from the game. 10 PRINT ‘HELLO!’ 20 GOTO 10 wasn’t quite going to get me there though. So drawings and dreams was as far as it got.
Ninja Man vs The Green Sticks of Doom: Was a series of games I attempted to make that had increasingly sophisticated graphics and increasingly nonfunctional game play. The first outing was an ASCII effort in GW Basic. My last attempt (21 years ago) and the third in the series was written in QuickBasic with the help of a VisualBasic utility I wrote to turn .ico files into .txt files that I would then render pixel by pixel in QuickBasic.
Spy: Was an ASCII action puzzle game written in QuickBasic that had six fully playable levels loaded from text files. It most closely resembles the MiniLD #68 entry I’m working on.
Good luck everyone. Looking forward to seeing all your games.

Was “Save the Battery Hens” actually the reason you started making games?
