{"author_name":"spirulence","cat":"LD #25","comments":[],"epoch":1355344500,"likes":0,"metadata":{"p_key":"50621","p_author":"spirulence","p_authorkey":"10901","p_urlkey":"86314","p_title":"How to package your Java-based game","p_cat":"LD #25","p_event":"LD25","p_time":"1355344500","p_likes":"0","p_comments":"0","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"10901","us_name":"spirulence","us_username":"spirulence","event_start":"1355443200","event_key":"14","event_name":"LD25"},"text":"<p>Howdy, Ludum Darers!<\/p>\n <p>Last Ludum Dare, I wrote a little guide to using Launch4j to package your Java game so that people don&#8217;t need Java installed to play it.<\/p>\n <p>I&#8217;ve only got Windows instructions, but they&#8217;re not old (yet), and you can find them here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/2012\/08\/24\/how-to-package-your-java-game-this-ld\/\">http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/2012\/08\/24\/how-to-package-your-java-game-this-ld\/<\/a><\/p>\n <p>I understand that Linux and OSX are also supported by Launch4j (albeit you need a Mac to package on a Mac, and some variety of Linux to package for Linux), but I can&#8217;t vouch for how well they work.<\/p>\n <p>There are other ways of doing the same thing: our team recently got a license of Excelsior which does this, in the comments on the linked post there was mention of Processing, and apparently there are some well-supported OSX applications which do the same thing.<\/p>\n <p>If you don&#8217;t already package your game this way, I hope that you seriously consider it: erase every &#8220;I really wanted to play this game, but I don&#8217;t have Java installed&#8221; comment from the possibility of existence!<\/p>\n <p>Happy holidays and Merry Ludum Dare. <img src=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/simple-smile.png\" alt=\":)\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/><\/p>","time":"December 12th, 2012 3:35 pm","title":"How to package your Java-based game"}
