{"author_name":"AgentParsec","cat":"LD #28","comments":[{"author_name":"","time":"December 25, 2013 10:41 am","epoch":1387986060,"text":"One of my favorite games in the jam, well done!","spam":"N"}],"epoch":1387929960,"likes":3,"metadata":{"p_key":"34109","p_author":"AgentParsec","p_authorkey":"12468","p_urlkey":"69654","p_title":"Wraith Post-Mortem","p_cat":"LD #28","p_event":"LD28","p_time":"1387929960","p_likes":"3","p_comments":"1","p_status":"UPD5","us_key":"12468","us_name":"AgentParsec","us_username":"\/author\/agentparsec\/","event_start":"1386892800","event_key":"20","event_name":"LD28"},"text":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/wraith_ss.png\"><img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-326215\" alt=\"wraith_ss\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/wraith_ss-300x144.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"144\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/wraith_ss-300x144.png 300w, http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/wraith_ss-550x265.png 550w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n <p>I&#8217;ve only done two LD&#8217;s so far, and I was happy the most with this one.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure there were improvements I could have made, but I accomplished my goal with it, and that&#8217;s really what I was aiming for.<\/p>\n <p>Some notable things about the process:<\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>I tackled gameplay first and worried about graphics and sound later, which was the right way to do this.\u00a0 Previously I tried to do all of them at once, and it ended up just confusing me and causing me to run out of time before I could get everything right.<\/li>\n <li>I made all the sounds from scratch using my microphone.\u00a0 The footsteps and the gun firing were both me making sound effects into the mic and then editing them heavily in a .wav editor until I was happy with the result.\u00a0 It should go without saying that I composed the music as well.<\/li>\n <li>On a technical note, this is the first time I&#8217;ve\u00a0written coroutines (used during the map generation), and the first time I made a maze generator out of prefabs.\u00a0 (The process I used for &#8220;Where Am I?&#8221; was clunky and barely worked.)\u00a0 Regardless of how the scoring comes out, I can definitely say I came out of this with some additional experience.<\/li>\n <li>Because I had enough time left over, I implemented Oculus Rift support, and I was very pleased with the result.\u00a0 In hindsight though, I should have paid more attention to the size of the objects on the map.\u00a0 I had shrunk the player down to fit the prefabs, and I think it caused the camera to show everything extra tiny as a result.\u00a0 The only way to fix it would have been to redo everything in a larger scale, and that didn&#8217;t seem worth it since the 3D effect\u00a0was still there, just not to scale.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll know next time.<\/li>\n <li>On retrospect, I should have used more colors in the textures.\u00a0 While the grays do give it a dreary sense, it felt too visually similar to &#8220;Where Am I?&#8221;, which was completely monochrome as well.\u00a0 (But at least the\u00a0muzzle flash\u00a0was in color!)<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p>On another note, anyone who knows me knows that I love to\u00a0watch play through and reaction videos for my games.\u00a0 If anyone has done one for Wraith (or knows of one that someone else has done), please let me know!<\/p>","time":"December 24th, 2013 7:06 pm","title":"Wraith Post-Mortem"}
