Should LD also do a slow jam?

OK LD is great for people who can spend most of their weekend working intensely on a game but what about people who have time constraints.

So could LD do a slower version of the Jam/Challenge aimed at people who can work on a game in their lunch break or an hour after work?

Slow jam entrants could have 48 hours but spread over a month.

I think it would be an interesting experiment to see if people working less hours over a longer time period can produce better games than people working in a crunch time style 48 hours.

What do you think, would you enter a LD Slow Jam?

I don’t think you need a game jam for that. Just challenge yourself to do it, that’s all you’d need.

I think that the crazy scrambling for speed and for some reason always getting 50% of the game done in the last 4 hours is a significant part of the fun.

That’s just me anyway.

You should start one. The results might be interesting to compare, as you have said.

I personally like Ludum Dare because if it were longer, I would just give up or over-scope. That’s why my two latest games are in jams… On the other hand, have you heard of “One game a Month”?

The miniLDs are a lot more relaxed with their time constraints and happen once a month (except where the ‘real’ LDs happen), might be what you’re looking for? Or just go look on compohub.net for something that lines up, there’s usually at least one million jams happening at any given moment.
