The first evening – progress so far

I have to admit, I was kinda looking forward to unicode snowman as a theme, as much as it pains me to say that.

I’ve had an idea bouncing in my head for a years about an RTS based around the idea of WW1-era trench warfare, with the caveat that you couldn’t control your units directly. So far, I’m going with that as my idea for this game, but I’m concerned it may be too ambitious for LD.

Calling it a night after 2 hours of theme brainstorming and about 3 hours of banging my head against Unity. So far, I’ve got a simple system for laying paths by clicking and dragging, and they join up automatically:

The idea is that this will be the method for planning the trenches your units will dig. The right side of the screen is reserved for a toolbar for all the actions and things you’ll eventually be able to build.

I rather of suspect I’ll wake up in the morning with a totally different idea for the theme, so I’m leaving it here while I’ve still got a ton of options open.

Good luck, I’ve always wanted someone to play around with a trench-warfare game, and WWI is an underused setting/theme.
