About to head to bed - I'm super happy with how this has turned out. I've done almost everything I wanted to do, and way more than I ever thought I would (given Murphy's Law). Work left is to add an end-game screen and write some music, and I probably won't be able to resist tweaking the balance parameters. What do you think?
