I hope by now you have all had the pleasure (or misfortune) to play my LD33 entry: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/ludum-dare-33\/?action=preview&amp;uid=28370\">Trump 3016<\/a>&#8220;. The game stars <del>Donald<\/del> David Trump as he strives to reach Saturn in time\u00a0after losing the Pluto debate to the cyborg-enhanced Hillary&#8230;. you know what, let&#8217;s try this again:<\/p>\n <p>It&#8217;s a <em><strong>Trump-themed RPG Roguelike<\/strong><\/em>! (Dare I say&#8230; the\u00a0<em>only<\/em> Trump-themed RPG Roguelike!)<\/p>\n <p><strong>The Good<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>I started with a simple Ruby script I had written to generate random dungeons. This was a helpful jump-start (which relegated me to the Jam, but that&#8217;s fine).<\/li>\n <li>I really love the feel of exploring the random floors. This is what I&#8217;m most proud of.<\/li>\n <li>Comments from my last 2 entries indicated people liked my humor and storytelling best (graphics and audio least). So I focused on that.<\/li>\n <li>There is an absolute abundance of Trump out there. The story basically wrote itself.<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p><strong>The Bad<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>The battle system is woefully unbalanced. The game is unplayable past level 10.<\/li>\n <li>I didn&#8217;t count on having pacing issues; 72 hours is a lot harder than 48! Props to all you Jammers.<\/li>\n <li>RPG Maker has its own host of problems. I totally understand if you are allergic to RTP (but\u00a0at least watch the intro!)<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p><strong>The Ugly<\/strong><\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>I lost a lot of time tracking down assets.\u00a0It&#8217;s easier when I can just draw something (terrible) and be done with it.<\/li>\n <li>This game might become a whole lot less funny in 2016. Sorry in advance!<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p>Some other cool things about the game:<\/p>\n <ul>\n <li>If you talk to\u00a0the suited NPC near the doors, you can get a &#8220;Fabric of Reality&#8221; early \u00a0&#8212;this lets you enter the random seed for the next level, which\u00a0will consistently generate the same level each time. Try entering your name, or any random information. Maybe you&#8217;ll spawn a cool layout.<\/li>\n <li>It is cross-platform, which is no small feat for RPG Maker games.<\/li>\n <li>It exists! We now live in a world where a Trump-themed RPG Roguelike exists! Huzzah, and you&#8217;re welcome!<\/li>\n <\/ul>\n <p>If I were to do this again, I&#8217;d enlist someone else to do the battle balancing, or I&#8217;d streamline combat to focus on HP, Attack, and Defense (and Ikari).<\/p>\n <p>I had a lot of fun making this game, although my next LD probably won&#8217;t use RPG Maker.<\/p>","time":"September 9th, 2015 11:42 pm","title":"Trump 3016 Post-Mortem"}
