Slime Feeder by aeai

[raw]
made by aeai for LD33 (COMPO)
Feed your slime mommy and try to not die in the process! It's more of a concept than a finished game but ohh well :)

CONTROLS
-----------------
WASD/Arrows -- Move
Space/E -- Slime
C/R -- Change color

Every slime follows the trail that match their color, but can't cross other colored trails.

You die if you collide with a matching colored slime or you are too close when mommy grows.

*EDIT*
8/25/2015 Fixed a crash: Player should not able to step into a slime spawner(Thanks Alexander Ramsay-Baggs to report it)
9/07/2015 Fixed a crash: The mommy crashed the game when she ate a spawner(Thanks for Arvaneth to report it)

The rule set looks promising. The art was nice. Finding other slimes was hard sometimes.

I found some sort of slime-spawner, and stepped on it. When the next slime spawned, the game crashed. Thought I'd let you know.

Fascinating gameplay. Very cute colourful graphics. Just needs some sound and music to round it off.

Interesting puzzle concept! Took me a second to grasp the burrowing aspect, but from there it was pretty smooth sailing.

Very cool and innovative concept. Hard to understand at first, but it makes for a very challenging puzzle game. Nicely done.

I like the concept and the random difficulty.I had my fun, then I decided to find as many odd things as I could.
Feel free to skip, too much free time on my hands.

Game crashes when the mommy is right next to a spawner and the spawned slime is eaten.
Movement keys are unreliable in the way that pressing up/w and right/d often move for the equivalent of two blocks when I barely hold them.
Some blue spawners actually spawn green coloured slime instead. No idea if that was intended.
The green colour right before red will not affect other greens when touching or leaving a trail. Im guessing it was for testing things and it just wasnt removed?
The mother slime doesn't seem to actually do anything with the solidified slime blocks when expanding over them.

@Arvaneth: Thx the awesome comment and the reported bugs:) I am going to fix the crash as soon as i can(I am in vacation so i don't know how soon that will be, i need to hunt down a pc) The movement issues are related to some bad decision what I made while i make the collision detection system. I noticed them too but unfortunatelly i didn't have the time to fix them :( The green colour before the red is also a bug, i guess it's the mom slime color, you not supposed to have that:p The blue spawner spawning green slimes a "feature" I actually lost the green spawner sprite before submission so i used that as a substitute. The solid slime blocks was intended for a building/resource management feature but i needed to cut that because of the closing deadline. If i manage to get the time for it i will make a complete game with the same concepts and without the shortcuts:) One more time, thank you that you decided that the game worth that much playtime that you could notice these things:)

It's a strong concept with a very good puzzle element that is let down by lack of audio and slightly unclear goal/reward system. I hope work is continued on this game.

Pretty cool! I managed to get a spawner going all the way home and just kind of kept it on in the background :P
