Hitogochi by OnionBlaze

[raw]
made by OnionBlaze for LD33 (JAM)
The idea was supposed to be a reversed Tamagotchi, where you ask for things to the person taking care of you. Somewhere along the way, I got too into dialogues so.. this happened.

I was planning to join the compo, but then I haven't even written any dialogues during the last few hours, so I ended up in the jam instead.

Still fun though. Hope you like it!

P.S. You might get some lag at the start for magical reasons.

I laughed out loud when I "lost" for the first time. But after a few plays, I figured out what the symbols meant and had a rough idea how to influence them, and I got the happy ending :)

That was pretty good! but why such a tame "eating" should've wewnt the whole way!! Ill try some more to see if taking only the arm was a "better" outcome then some.

Overall 5/5!
Great job! The game is lovely! This could be the most sweet way interpret the 'monster' in the theme! The inner conflict between kill and love, the polished graphics and tweening! Picked by GB!

Didn't make it to the end, maybe not my type of game.

Dislike: Music, shaky screen

I really like the commentary (or "message" if you will) here. A nice take on what it means to be a monster and the conflict that comes with it.

Good job!

I chose to be the wicked then romantic monster, it was HARD to not eat her, haha. :D
There's really a lot of possibilities! I did not notice any duplicate actions!

Fun, cutesy dating sim. I'm concerned for Nadine and the protagonist's relationship though, considering he spent the best part of a week wanting to eat her... I really liked this, although I only managed to get the sweet ending (and eat her on the second day, of course). Great entry, well done! :)

That was awesome. The only part I felt was a bit cheap was trying to be nice offering her my food, only to find out it was poisonous to her. Other than that, it was good, and the variety of endings were all satisfying.

The game sure gives lots of choices! For example here: http://i.imgur.com/FmHM6YO.png

Either way, interesting visual novel and good take on inverting classic Tamagotchi. Most of the time the choices felt "too obvious" (i.e. it wasn't difficult to tell which effect they'd have), but I don't think it's a big flaw (it's not uncommon, either).

Graphics and audio were pretty cute, though sometimes I feel a font colour could have been chosen better; the narration text is a bit dark, and the red text kinda clashes with the background.

Still, pretty nice entry overall. ^^"

That was hilarious! I liked the underlying conflict of wanting to consume the caretaker (as well as other myriad of method to kill her). Ended in a romance ending (dunno if there are other endings) while frantically trying to retain my resources. Adorable, stupid, and absurd: the perfect formula. Great presentation, too.

Thought the music was pretty repetitive. Could have been more contextually sensitive. A nitpick, though.

Is it even possible to get a different good ending than the romance ending? I tried several times but couldn't get any other good ending.

Anyways, I liked the game enough to try multiple times before giving up on finding different endings. It's fun trying the different options and seeing what results they bring.

The art is obviously the strongest point of the game. It's very charming and works very well in the game. The only minor flaw I could find was that Nadine's death sprite didn't really have much of an impact.

I disagree with most commenters on the audio. While the background tune is nice, it gets repetitive over time. More importantly, there are countless missed opportunities where the game could be enhanced with sound. Most notably, Nadine's death is soundless with the cutesy tune still playing in the background. Even just muting the sound would have made it much more dramatic, but ideally you'd want a short dramatic BGM and sound effect. Sound could also provide tons of feedback (for example to indicate Nadine's mood changes) or help immersion (eating sounds while eating, etc). The audio's not terrible, but it could have been so much better.
