Hindenboxer by Dining Philosopher

[raw]
made by Dining Philosopher for LD33 (JAM)
It's well past bedtime when a low rumble rolls through the streets of Friedrichshafen.
Hindenboxer, a monster from ancient times, has awoken!
Exploding zeppelin pilots scramble to combat the menace, but do they have what it takes?

Punch the exploding zeppelins before they hit you by pressing the right keys.
Best played on a QWERTY-keyboard.
Bestest played with touch-typing skills.

Made by Anneroos (almost everything), Otto (music and sound effects) and Jelle (concept, mostly thesis), using PlayCanvas, Blender, Inkscape and Reason.

This was our first time using PlayCanvas, and it turned out that the game speed was frame-based - and that PlayCanvas adjusts the framerate as it sees fit. Since we tested the game on old laptops, the game may run a little too fast on a modern desktop. We fixed the problem in the post-compo version.

Nice! Made it to 82 points, but I can't reproduce it anmyore. I like how you can combine multiple zeppelins into a single punch, but it's a bit hard to see sometimes whether that will work. Perhaps a 2D top-down view would work better? I like the music, really adds to the frantic atmosphere.

Nicely done. Like the graphics and the view style (camera in front and on the ground). Only thing that I might change is maybe slow down the increase in zeppelins a little bit: the difficult ramps up a little bit too fast IMO. Very fun though, gives me memories from when I was a kid learning how to type.

Really nice! I loved the two fist mechanic, and that you had to wait until the fist actually reached the blimp before pressing the next key. Also really liked the end where it became about choosing the right key to punch multiple zeppelins at the same time, and the shifting lighting was a nice touch. Would have loved the difficulty to scale up a little faster in the middle of the game, mostly because the ending pacing was my favorite part!

That was really fun, with how you presented the art, music, and theme. Punching zeppelins feels great! =)

This is really good for a typing game, great concept. Nothing much to complain about at all except the speed of terrain scrolling maybe. Everything else that you can improve beyond the 48 hr deadline I won't mention but this has potential to go further, keep it up!

A solid entry, I really enjoyed the gameplay, the controlls are also cool, and it is pretty engaging. I wonder if it would be also fun if the monster's hands could remember sequences or targets to hit - then you could go braver into a lot of enemy zeppelins. Also - zeppelins with 2-3 letter words?
A very nice game, well done, once again. :)

Nice! Music was really great, fit really well. Graphics fit nicely and created a good atmosphere. This town really invested waay too much money in Zeppelins... they need to rethink their anti-monster strategies...

Difficulty should probably ramp up more quickly. There is something oddly satisfying about watching huge blocky hands smack down blimps out of the sky....

108 - Nice job, pretty fun! Maybe change the render layer or use a different shader on the letters to ensure their visibility. The difficulty also seems to ramp up too quickly.
